MXenes-2D carbides/nitrides derived from their bulk nanolamellar M AX phase (MAX) counterparts-are, for the most part, obtained by chemical etching. Despite the fact that the MA bonds in the MAX phases are not weak, in this work it is demonstrated that relatively large MAX single crystals can be mechanically exfoliated using the adhesive tape method to produce flakes whose thickness can be reduced down to half a unit cell. The exfoliated flakes, transferred onto SiO /Si substrates, are analyzed using electric force microscopy (EFM). No appreciable variation in EFM signal with flake thickness is found. EFM contrast between the flakes and SiO not only depends on the contact surface potential, but also on the local capacitance. The contribution of the latter can be used to show the metallic character-confirmed by four-contact resistivity measurements-of even the thinnest of flakes. Because the A-layers are preserved, strictly speaking MXenes are not dealt with in this work, but rather MAXenes. This is important in the case where the "A" layers contain magnetic elements such as Mo Ce Al C , whose structure is a derivative of the MAX structure.

To address the demands of rapidly advancing precision instruments requiring higher efficiency and miniaturization, permanent magnets must exhibit exceptional energy density, temperature stability, high magnetic energy product [()], and adequate coercivity (). Herein, we design rare earth Er-based magnets (2 : 17-type Er-magnets) with a composition of (Er, Sm)(Co, Fe, Cu, Zr). Erbium-based compounds (ErCo) offer a unique combination of temperature compensation and high saturation magnetization compared to other heavy rare earth elements, resulting in 2 : 17-type Er-magnets with superior temperature stability in and ().

Magnetoliposomes containing magnetite, soy lecithin, stigmasterol, and beta-sitosterol of the mean size minor than 160 nm were obtained by a scalable and green process using autoclave and sonication without organic solvents. The formation, size of the liposome, linkage, and encapsulation of the magnetite were evaluated by Cryo-TEM. The stability of magnetoliposomes after storage for 6 months at 4 °C was improved by liposome size, the ability of soy lecithin to preserve the magnetite phase against oxidation, pH, polydispersity index, and zeta potential.

Leveraging a phased pangenome for haplotype design of hybrid potato.

The tetraploid genome and clonal propagation of the cultivated potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) dictate a slow, non-accumulative breeding mode of the most important tuber crop. Transitioning potato breeding to a seed-propagated hybrid system based on diploid inbred lines has the potential to greatly accelerate its improvement.

Blood Flow Velocity Analysis in Cerebral Perforating Arteries on 7T 2D Phase Contrast MRI with an Open-Source Software Tool (SELMA).

Translational Neuroimaging Group, Center for Image Sciences, University Medical Center Utrecht, Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Blood flow velocity in the cerebral perforating arteries can be quantified in a two-dimensional plane with phase contrast magnetic imaging (2D PC-MRI). The velocity pulsatility index (PI) can inform on the stiffness of these perforating arteries, which is related to several cerebrovascular diseases. Currently, there is no open-source analysis tool for 2D PC-MRI data from these small vessels, impeding the usage of these measurements.
