Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a self-compassion expressive writing activity could improve psychological well-being in people with an ostomy, as assessed by changes in body image distress, ostomy-specific quality of life (QOL), self-compassion, and dispositional disgust.
Design: Randomized controlled trial design was used.
Subjects And Setting: The sample comprised 175 English-speaking patients over 18 years of age with a fecal or urinary ostomy; all participants resided in Australia and New Zealand.
Background/objectives: Adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy (AOO) has the potential to provide insights into AMD pathology and to assess the risk of progression. We aim to utilise AOO to describe detailed features of intermediate AMD and to characterise microscopic changes during atrophy development.
Subjects/methods: Patients with intermediate AMD were recruited into PINNACLE, a prospective observational cohort study.

: Body image dissatisfaction is elevated in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) as well as other chronic diseases. The aim of this study was to determine if the higher rate of body image dissatisfaction in IBD is specific to IBD or characteristic of chronic disease in general by comparing body image dissatisfaction in IBD patients with age- and gender-matched healthy individuals and those with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). : In this New Zealand-based case-control study conducted in a secondary care hospital, consecutive IBD patients aged 16 years and older were matched 1:1 with healthy individuals and T1DM patients based on age and gender.

Case: Physeal stability in slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) depends on integrity of the hypertrophic zone. This in turn is affected by imbalance between circulating growth hormones and gonadal hormones. This case describes the occurrence of SCFE in a Māori (indigenous New Zealander) transgender girl, undergoing gender-affirming therapy with a gonadal-releasing hormone analog (GnRHa).
