Polarized X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) at the Co K-edge and broadband UV-vis transient absorption are used to monitor the sequential evolution of the excited-state structure of coenzyme B (adenosylcobalamin) over the first picosecond following excitation. The initial state is characterized by sub-100 fs sequential changes around the central cobalt. These are polarized first in the -direction orthogonal to the transition dipole and 50 fs later in the -direction along the transition dipole. Expansion of the axial bonds follows on a ca. 200 fs time scale as the molecule moves out of the Franck-Condon active region of the potential energy surface. On the same 200 fs time scale there are electronic changes that result in the loss of stimulated emission and the appearance of a strong absorption at 340 nm. These measurements provide a cobalt-centered movie of the excited molecule as it evolves to the local excited-state minimum.

The line list is essential for accurately modeling various astrophysical phenomena, such as stellar photospheres and atmospheres of extrasolar planets. This paper introduces a new line database for the PS molecule spanning from the ultraviolet to the infrared regions, covering wavenumbers up to 45000 cm and containing over ten million transitions between 150,458 states with total angular momentum J < 160. Accurate line intensities for rotational, vibrational and electronic transitions are generated by using the general purpose variational code DUO.

Exploring the Impact of Structural Modifications of Phenothiazine-Based Novel Compounds for Organic Solar Cells: DFT Investigations.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Research Laboratory of Asymmetric Synthesis and Molecular Engineering of Materials for Organic Electronic (LR18ES19), Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences of Monastir, University of Monastir, Avenue of Environment, Monastir 5019, Tunisia.

This paper explores a novel group of D-π-A configurations that has been specifically created for organic solar cell applications. In these material compounds, the phenothiazine, the furan, and two derivatives of the thienyl-fused IC group act as the donor, the π-conjugated spacer, and the end-group acceptors, respectively. We assess the impact of substituents by introducing bromine atoms at two potential substitution sites on each end-group acceptor (EG1 and EG2).

The substituent effect has a significant influence on the optical properties of spectral shape, width, and wavelength, and the intensities of the maximum peaks of emission (EMI) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). In this work, we conducted a systematic theoretical study to investigate how substituents alter the optical response in the EMI and CPL spectra of three [7]helicene derivatives at the vibronic level. To incorporate the vibronic effect, a state-of-the-art time-dependent (TD) method was used to achieve the fully converged spectra.

Optoelectronic Properties of Shallow Donor Atom in 2D-Curved Nanostructures Under External Electric and Magnetic Fields.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Grupo de Materia Condensada-UdeA, Instituto de Física, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad de Antioquia UdeA, Calle 70 No. 52-21, Medellín 050010, Colombia.

Using the effective mass approximation and the finite difference method, we examined the linear, non-linear, and total optical absorption coefficients (OAC), as well as the relative refractive index coefficients (RIC) variations for an off-center shallow donor impurity in a 2D-curved electronic nanostructure subjected to external electric and magnetic fields. Our results reveal that the peak positions of the OAC and RIC are susceptible to the geometrical angles, the impurity position, and the strength of the applied electric and magnetic fields. In particular, the positions of the OAC and RIC peaks can be shifted towards blue or red by adjusting the geometric angle.

Large Polarization Change Induced by Spin Crossover-Driven Fe(II) Ion Shuttling within a Tripodal Ligand.

Key Laboratory of Cluster Science of Ministry of Education, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing 100081, People's Republic of China.

The integration of spin crossover (SCO) magnetic switching and electric polarization properties can engender intriguing correlated magnetic and electric phenomena. However, achieving substantial SCO-induced polarization change through rational molecular design remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we present a polar Fe(II) compound that exhibits substantial polarization change in response to a thermally regulated low-spin ↔ high-spin transition.
