Purpose: To evaluate accuracy of defining characteristics (DCs) for impaired gas exchange (IGE), impaired spontaneous ventilation (ISV), and ineffective breathing pattern (IBP) in respiratory deterioration.
Methods: This study is a retrospective analysis of medical records. The accuracy and predictive ability of DC or of clusters are calculated.
Findings: In this study, 391 records were evaluated. For IGE, DCs or clusters with higher efficiency were "hypercapnia" (78%), "somnolence" (74.4%), and "hypercapnia + tachycardia" (88%); for ISV, the cluster with higher efficiency was "increased heart rate ± decrease in cooperation" (70.1%); and for IBP, no DC or cluster exceeded 70% efficiency. These were confirmed by logistic regression.
Conclusion: Few DCs had adequate efficiency for respiratory nursing diagnoses, while in some cases clusters accounted for higher efficiency.
Implications For Nursing Practice: Clusters of DC may be relevant for respiratory diagnoses.

The existing research studies on the basin stability of stochastic systems typically focus on smooth systems, or the attraction basins are pre-defined as easily solvable regular basins. In this work, we introduce a new framework to discover the basin stability from state time series in the non-smooth stochastic competition system under threshold control. Specifically, we approximate the drift and diffusion with threshold control parameters by an extended Kramers-Moyal expansion with initial state partitioning.

Mathematical models of viral dynamics are crucial in understanding infection trajectories. However, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) viral load data often includes limited sparse observations with significant heterogeneity. This study aims to: (1) understand the impact of patient characteristics in shaping the temporal viral load trajectory and (2) establish a data collection protocol (DCP) to reliably reconstruct individual viral load trajectories.

Background: During the course of the past two decades, head-mounted augmented reality surgical navigation (HMARSN) systems have been increasingly employed in a variety of surgical specialties as a result of both advancements in augmented reality-related technologies and surgeons' desires to overcome some drawbacks inherent to conventional surgical navigation systems. In the present time, most experimental HMARSN systems adopt overlain display (OD) that overlay virtual models and planned routes of surgical tools on corresponding physical tissues, organs, lesions, and so forth, in a surgical field so as to provide surgeons with an intuitive and direct view to gain better hand-eye coordination as well as avoid attention shift and loss of sight (LOS), among other benefits during procedures. Yet, its system accuracy, which is the most crucial performance indicator of any surgical navigation system, is difficult to ascertain because it is highly subjective and user-dependent.

Background: Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most lethal malignancies worldwide, with a poor prognosis often attributed to late diagnosis. Understanding the correlation between pathological type and imaging features is crucial for early detection and appropriate treatment planning.
Aim: To retrospectively analyze the relationship between different pathological types of pancreatic cancer and their corresponding imaging features.

Objectives: The association of celiac disease (CD) in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is well-established, yet variation exists in screening practices. This study measures the accuracy of early screening with tissue transglutaminase Immunoglobulin A (TTG-IgA) and endomysial antibody (EMA) in newly diagnosed T1DM.
Methods: This is a retrospective study of children with T1DM between 2013 and 2019 with early CD screening and follow-up.
