During the last decades, persistent tris(2,3,5,6-tetrathiaaryl)methyl radicals (TAMs) have attracted much attention due to their applications in oximetry, EPR tomography, and as spin labels in pulsed dipolar EPR spectroscopy. Recently, researchers proposed to use TAM radicals as spin labels and/or a partner for photoinduced spin labels. Thus, the questions of their photochemical stability and mechanism of degradation under UV irradiation have become relevant and important. In this study, steady-state photolysis and flash photolysis of TAM radicals were investigated. A detailed mechanism of TAM phototransformations was proposed and confirmed by NMR, gel permeation chromatography, and mass-spectrometric analyses of the products.

Mixtures of two phospholipids (PLs) with different main phase transition temperatures were investigated. Host PLs (HPLs) were represented by DMPC, DPPC, DSPC, and DMPE. The admixed PL was the spin-labeled phosphatidylcholine 5-PC(1-palmitoyl-2-(5-doxylstearoyl)phosphatidylcholine), with a unique opportunity to monitor the properties and the local environments of all admixed PL molecules using saturation recovery EPR methods.

Background: Arterial spin labeling (ASL) is a noninvasive brain perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that has not been assessed in dogs with meningoencephalitis of unknown origin (MUO).
Hypothesis/objectives: Assess brain perfusion changes characteristics before and after medical treatment, and investigate the role of ASL perfusion in the diagnosis and prognosis of MUO in dogs.
Animals: Thirty-one dogs with presumed MUO.

Sleep fragmentation (SF) is increasingly recognized as a contributing factor to postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). Given the critical roles of somatostatin (SST) interneurons, associated gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)ergic neurotransmitters, and hippocampal perfusion in sleep-related cognition, this study examined changes in these mechanisms in preoperative SF affecting POCD induced by anesthesia/surgery in aged male mice. The Morris water maze (MWM), novel object recognition (NOR), and Y maze tests were utilized to evaluate POCD.
