With high theoretical specific density, low cost, and non-toxicity, Li-S batteries are regarded as a promising candidate for next-generation energy storage systems. However, the shuttling of soluble Li polysulfides (LiPSs) results in self-discharge and rapid capacity degradation. Herein, nitrogen-doped hierarchical porous carbon with embedded highly dispersed vanadium (v)-N sites (V-N-C) is developed as a high-performance Li-S battery cathode for the first time. The metal-organic polymer supramolecule structure formed by the electrostatic/hydrogen bond interaction of chitosan-VO strongly stabilizes V to generate a high density of V-N/C sites. During the discharge/charge process, the unique V-N/C active sites can serve as efficient catalysts to accelerate the redox kinetics of LiPSs, while the hierarchical porous carbon structure of V-N-C benefits the diffusion/transfer of Li/e and suppresses the shuttling of LiPSs. As a result, the S/V-N-C composite delivers a high specific capacity of 1111.2 mA h g at 0.5C and maintains 573.6 mA h g at 5C with a low capacity decay rate of 0.087% per cycle (over 500 cycles at 1C). The rate performance of the developed V-N-C cathode in Li-S batteries is superior to that of most of the reported M-N-C and carbon material/metal compound composite electrodes.

A convenient method is proposed using a heat-treatable volatile template to prepare hierarchical porous biochar (HPB). Litsea cubeba leaves and ZIF-8 served as carbon source and volatile hard template, respectively. The good compatibility between ZIF-8 and biomass facilitated their uniform dispersion, and the thermal decomposition of ZIF-8 created abundant pores in the HPB.

Biomineralization of enzymes inside rigid metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is appealing due to its biocompatibility and simplicity. However, this strategy has hitherto been limited to microporous MOFs, leading to low apparent enzymatic activity. In this study, polysaccharide sodium alginate is introduced during the biomineralization of enzymes in zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) to competitively coordinate with metal ions, which endows the encapsulated enzyme with a 7-fold higher activity than that in microporous ZIFs.

2D materials feature large specific surface areas and abundant active sites, showing great potential in energy storage and conversion. However, the dense, stacked structure severely restricts its practical application. Inspired by the structure of bamboo in nature, hollow interior and porous exterior wall, hollow MXene aerogel fiber (HA-TiCT fiber) is proposed.

The recovery and separation of organic solvents is highly important for the chemical industry and environmental protection. In this context, porous organic polymers (POPs) have significant potential owing to the possibility of integrating shape-persistent macrocyclic units with high guest selectivity. Here, we report the synthesis of a macrocyclic porous organic polymer (np-POP) and the corresponding model compound by reacting cyclotetrabenzil naphthalene octaketone macrocycle with 1,2,4,5-tetraaminobenzene and 1,2-diaminobenzene, respectively, under solvothermal conditions.

Rapid control of hemorrhage is vital in first-aid and surgery. As representative of emergency hemostatic materials, inorganic porous materials achieve rapid hemostasis through concentrating protein coagulation factors by water adsorption to accelerate the coagulation reaction process, however their efficacy is often limited by the insufficient contact of material with blood and the lack of blood clot strength. Herein, we report an ultrafast dispersing and in situ gelation sponge (SG/DB) based on anchoring interface effect for hemorrhage control using freeze drying method after mixing fish scale gel (SG) and tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) pre-crystallized diatom biosilica (DB).
