This paper, written by Professor Rosario Maiorca, describes the everyday professional life in the institutes of Clinica Medica and subsequently of Patologia Medica at Parma University in the second half of the fifties and in the first years of the sixties of the past century. Those institutes and that period, which have been very important for the birth of Nephrology in Italy, have already been described, from the historical standpoint, in an Italian monograph on the history of our specialty for the period 1957-2007. The present paper adds to that chapter an insight of "real life", with a lively description of the wide and passionate clinical and scientific activities of the young doctors in training and of the personality, greatly stimulating and altruistic, of their "Masters".

The study of transient and variable events, including novae, active galactic nuclei, and black hole binaries, has historically been a fruitful path for elucidating the evolutionary mechanisms of our universe. The study of such events in the millimeter and submillimeter is, however, still in its infancy. Submillimeter observations probe a variety of materials, such as optically thick dust, which are hard to study in other wavelengths.

We review the current state of understanding of Ceres as it relates to planetary protection policy for future landed missions, including for sample return, to the dwarf planet. The Dawn mission found Ceres to be an intriguing target for a mission, with evidence for the presence of regional, possibly extensive liquid at depth, and local expressions of recent and potentially ongoing activity. The Dawn mission also found a high abundance of carbon in the regolith, interpreted as a mix of carbonates and amorphous carbon, as well as locally high concentrations of organic matter.

Transgender experiences have been attested since the dawn of civilization. Long before gender was reinterpreted as socially constructed and non-binary by 20th-century Western scholarship, concepts such as not belonging to the gender assigned at birth, transitioning, and being "neither a man nor a woman" integrated the belief systems and practices of various societies worldwide. This review examines anthropological and historical records of trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming behavior spanning six continents and five millennia.
