Mixed zirconium 4-sulfophenylphosphonate phenylphosphonates with formulae Zr(HO3SC6H4PO3)1.8(C6H5PO3)0.2·2.6H2O, Zr(HO3SC6H4PO3)1.3(C6H5PO3)0.7·2H2O, and Zr(HO3SC6H4PO3)0.7(C6H5PO3)1.3·3.6H2O (generally, ZrSPhP) were intercalated with a series of amino alcohols, H2N(CH2)nOH, where n = 2 to 6, and triethylamine. It was found that in the case of amino alcohols the basal spacing of the intercalates increases linearly with n. The intercalates prepared can be exfoliated either by sonication or by the action of high-shear forces. The use of a high-shear force disperser is a more efficient exfoliation method, as it provides lamellas with larger lateral dimensions in a much shorter time. It was found that amino alcohols provide roughly the same results regardless of the length of their carbon chain. As follows from atomic force microscopy measurements, triethylamine is the most appropriate exfoliation agent for ZrSPhP as it produces platelets with the largest lateral size and the lowest amount of defects.

Atomically precise metal nanoclusters (NCs) have recently been recognized as an emerging sector of metal nanomaterials but suffer from light-induced poor stability, giving rise to the detrimental self-transformation into metal nanocrystals (NYs), losing the photosensitization effect and ultimately retarding their widespread applications in photoredox catalysis. Are metal NCs definitely superior to metal NYs in heterogeneous photocatalysis in terms of structural merits? To unlock this mystery, herein, we conceptually demonstrate how to rationally manipulate the instability of metal NCs to construct high-efficiency artificial photosystems and examine how the metal NYs self-transformed from metal NCs influence charge transfer in photoredox selective organic transformation. To our surprise, the results indicate that the Schottky-type electron-trapping ability of Au NYs surpasses the photosensitization effect of glutathione (GSH)-protected Au clusters [Au(GSH) NCs] in mediating charge separation and enhancing photoactivities towards selective photoreduction of aromatic nitro compounds to amino derivatives and photocatalytic oxidation of aromatic alcohols to aldehydes under visible light irradiation.

Introduction: FTY720 bioactive lipid has proliferative, osteoinductive, chemo attractive, and angiogenic properties, being thus a potential exogenous administered agent for promotion of bone regeneration. Herein we developed FTY720-loaded liposomes as a potential delivery system that could retain and prolong the bioactivity of the bioactive lipid and at the same time reduce its cytotoxicity (at high doses).

Methods: FTY720 liposomes were prepared by thin-lipid hydration and microfluidic flow focusing, and evaluated for their ability to induce proliferation, osteoinduction, and chemoattraction in three cell types: MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblast cells, L929 fibroblast cells, and ATDC5 chondrogenic cells.

Ca excitability of glia to neuromodulator octopamine in Drosophila living brain is greater than that of neurons.

Acta Physiol (Oxf)

February 2025

Laboratory of Neuroendocrinology-Molecular Cell Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Pathophysiology, University of Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Aim: Octopamine in the Drosophila brain has a neuromodulatory role similar to that of noradrenaline in mammals. After release from Tdc2 neurons, octopamine/tyramine may trigger intracellular Ca signaling via adrenoceptor-like receptors on neural cells, modulating neurotransmission. Octopamine/tyramine receptors are expressed in neurons and glia, but how each of these cell types responds to octopamine remains elusive.

Preparation of Molecularly Imprinted Electrochemical Sensors and Analysis of the Doping of Epinephrine in Equine Blood.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Monocrystalline Silicon Semiconductor Materials and Technology, Shandong Provincial Engineering Research Center of Organic Functional Materials and Green Low-Carbon Technology, Shandong Universities Engineering Research Center of Integrated Circuits Functional Materials and Expanded Applications, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Dezhou University, Dezhou 253023, China.

In this paper, a novel molecularly imprinted polymer membrane modified glassy carbon electrode for electrochemical sensors (MIP-OH-MWCNTs-GCE) for epinephrine (EP) was successfully prepared by a gel-sol method using an optimized functional monomer oligosilsesquioxane-AlO sol-ITO composite sol (ITO-POSS-AlO). Hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (OH-MWCNTs) were introduced during the modification of the electrodes, and the electrochemical behavior of EP on the molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensors was probed by the differential pulse velocity (DPV) method. The experimental conditions were optimized.
