Seven previously unknown sesquiterpenoids and norsesquiterpenoids, rhodocoranes F-L (-), were isolated from the fermentation broth of the basidiomycete . Their structures were elucidated utilizing 1D and 2D NMR techniques as well as HRESIMS; they are unusual noracorane, spiro[4.4]nonene, and acorane-type sesquiterpenoids. They include the first naturally occurring cyclopentylidenefuranones (-) and the new tricyclic scaffold of . Metabolites - exhibited a general mild antimycotic activity, while - also displayed cytotoxic effects.

Essential oils are investigated due to their biological activity, and the Amazon rainforest, with its rich biodiversity, is a promising source of therapeutic compounds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the essential oil from the leaves of as an antifungal agent, thus contributing to the search for alternatives that can address the growing resistance to conventional antifungals. leaves were collected in the Ecuadorian Amazon and their essential oil was obtained by steam distillation.

Service de Parasitologie-Mycologie, 3IHP, Inserm U1071, M2iSH, USC-INRAE 1382, Université Clermont Auvergne, CHU Clermont-Ferrand, Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Unlabelled: Intestinal microsporidiosis caused by is an opportunistic infection that especially affects solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. Management revolves around tapering the immunosuppressive regimen and/or using a specific anti-microsporidia treatment, but only fumagillin has demonstrated efficacy for treatment of this infection. Since fumagillin has been commercially discontinued, nitazoxanide is increasingly being used in this indication.

Article Synopsis
  • Phytophthora capsici is a dangerous soil-borne pathogen that threatens agriculture, but curcumol, a plant-derived compound, shows strong antifungal properties against it and other related pathogens.
  • Curcumol was found to significantly disrupt the growth and structure of P. capsici by damaging its cell membrane and inhibiting phosphatidylcholine synthesis, which is vital for cell integrity.
  • In practical tests, curcumol not only lowered disease rates in tomato and pepper plants but also demonstrated effective mobility within plant systems, suggesting its potential as a new fungicide.
