Although emergency surgery accounts for 50% of the surgery cases in hospitals in Italy, in 57% of the hospitals emergency surgery is not performed by a dedicated team. In Europe, numerous surveys have shown that 50% of the young surgeons desire a more complete training in emergency general surgery (EGS). A survey conducted by the Association of Surgeons in training in the UK has shown that trainees want greater competence in EGS (92.4%) through the adoption of specific programs and training protocols. The Italian Society of Emergency Surgery and Trauma (SICUT)) has decided to try to make up for this lack of training by organizing specific courses that can serve as a training pathway in EGS. KEY WORDS: Emergency Surgery, Training.

Background: Medical history and healthcare utilization in preclinical Alzheimer's disease (AD) are not well characterized and may reveal indicators associated with asymptomatic stages of AD.
Methods: This retrospective observational study compared 246 Anti-Amyloid Treatment in Asymptomatic AD study (A4) individuals who met elevated brain amyloid eligibility criteria to 121 individuals in the companion Longitudinal Evaluation of Amyloid Risk and Neurodegeneration study (LEARN) who were eligible for A4 except did not meet elevated amyloid eligibility criteria. Matched-controls for A4/LEARN, using a 3:1 match of demographics, Medicare enrollment month, and frailty status, were randomly selected from Medicare beneficiaries without cognitive impairment/dementia claims.

The magnitude of advances in surgical care inspires awe consistent with the impact of these developments on patients' lives. With this comes greater knowledge, new practices, and novel technologies for integration into residency training, making the skillset required of today's residents quite different from those in the past. Competency-based medical education and learner-centered approaches offer innovative and studied methodologies for teaching, learning, and assessment to meet the demands of today's educational environment.

Background: The prognostic value of tumor regression grade (TRG) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for rectal cancer is inconsistent in the literature. Both TRG and post-therapy lymph node (ypN) status could reflect the efficacy of neoadjuvant therapy. Here, we explored whether TRG combined with ypN status could be a prognostic factor for MRI-based lymph node-positive (cN+) rectal cancer following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy.

FAT atypical cadherin 1 (), which encodes an atypical cadherin-coding protein, has a high mutation rate and is commonly regarded as a tumor suppressor gene in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Nonetheless, the potential regulatory mechanisms by which FAT1 influences the progression of HNSCC remain unresolved. In this context, we reported that FAT1 was downregulated in tumor tissues/cells compared with normal tissues/cells and that it was correlated with the clinicopathological features and prognosis of HNSCC.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been proposed as an emerging onco-therapeutics that can specifically kill cancer cells without harming healthy cells. Here we explore its potency in triggering ferroptosis in transformed cells using triple negative breast cancer as the disease model. Through the whole transcriptome sequencing, mass spectrometry analysis, point mutation, and a series of and molecular assays, we identified two signaling axes centered at EGFR(Y1068), i.
