Objective: In some centers where brain tumor surgery is performed, the opportunity for expert intraoperative neuropathology consultation is lacking. Consequently, surgeons may not have access to the highest quality diagnostic histological data to inform surgical decision-making. Stimulated Raman histology (SRH) is a novel technology that allows for rapid acquisition of diagnostic histological images at the bedside.

Methods: The authors performed a prospective blinded cohort study of 82 consecutive patients undergoing resection of CNS tumors to compare diagnostic time and accuracy of SRH simulation to the gold standard, i.e., frozen and permanent section diagnosis. Diagnostic accuracy was determined by concordance of SRH-simulated intraoperative pathology consultation with a blinded board-certified neuropathologist, with official frozen section and permanent section results.

Results: Overall, the mean time to diagnosis was 30.5 ± 13.2 minutes faster (p < 0.0001) for SRH simulation than for frozen section, with similar diagnostic correlation: 91.5% (κ = 0.834, p < 0.0001) between SRH simulation and permanent section, and 91.5% between frozen and permanent section (κ = 0.894, p < 0.0001).

Conclusions: SRH-simulated intraoperative pathology consultation was significantly faster and equally accurate as frozen section.

This paper presents a theoretical analysis of an nBp infrared barrier detector's performance intended to operate at a room temperature (300 K) based on AB materials-InGaAsSb quaternary compound-lattice-matched to the GaSb substrate with a p-n heterojunction ternary AlGaSb barrier. Numerical simulations were performed using a commercial Crosslight Software-package APSYS. The band structure of the nBp detector and the electric field distribution for the p-n heterojunction with and without a potential barrier were determined.

Performance validity tests (PVTs) can be seen as gatekeepers for valid neuropsychological assessment, by marking cognitive test scores that may not reflect true ability levels. The present study explored the significance of repeated validity testing of adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), by exploring the potential value of performance consistency across assessments. The operational definition of performance consistency was determined by calculating the mean variation in a participant's PVT scores across three separate assessments.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores how atmospheric pressure changes during flights can influence insulin delivery from pumps in people with type 1 diabetes, potentially leading to issues like hypoglycaemia.
  • - An in vitro flight simulation mimicking airline conditions revealed that insulin pumps can over-deliver and under-deliver insulin at different stages of flight, particularly significant during emergency decompression scenarios.
  • - Real-world data from pilots using continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) showed that insulin levels remained stable with only a small percentage of blood glucose readings falling outside the safe range, indicating effective management while flying.

In recent years, buspirone has been co-administered with sertraline to resolve sexual disorders caused by sertraline. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the interaction effect of two antidepressants and anxiolytic drugs, sertraline and buspirone, on human serum albumin (HSA) using spectroscopic and molecular docking techniques. Fluorescence emission spectroscopy and molecular docking were used to calculate the binding affinity and determine the best binding sites for these two drugs.

Background: Intraoperative pathology consultation plays a crucial role in tumor surgery. The ability to accurately and rapidly distinguish tumor from normal tissue can greatly impact intraoperative surgical oncology management. However, this is dependent on the availability of a specialized pathologist for a reliable diagnosis.
