The potential influence of short-period (May-June 2012) dredging activities (for the installation of a submarine gas pipeline) on physical properties of the marine environment of two shallow-water sites in the Aliveri and Varnavas areas of South Euboean Gulf (Greece) has been evaluated. During the dredging operation in Varnavas, the induced dredge plume traveled up to ~ 750 m from the shoreline, featured by light attenuation coefficient (c) maxima of 4.01-4.61 m and suspended particulate matter (SPM) concentrations up to 6.01 mg L. After dredging the previous parameters reduced to the ambient seawater condition, ~ 0.45 m and < 2.8 mg L on average, respectively. Likewise in Aliveri, the dredging-associated sediment plume drifted offshore up to ~ 400 m from the shoreline, characterized by c maxima of 2.11-4.86 m and SPM concentrations up to 13.07 mg L. After the completion of the excavation and trenching activities, the c and SPM values were restored to the pre-disturbance condition, ~ 0.6 m and < 2.2 mg L on average, respectively. The migration of the dredge plume in both dredging sites was accomplished through the formation of intermediate and benthic nepheloid layers, whose development and evolution were governed by seawater stratification and flow regime. The dredging-derived SPM levels appeared to increase within a distance of no more than 300 m from the shoreline (near-field zone). Based on data from the literature, this SPM enhancement together with the deposition of a post-dredging residual mud veneer in the near-field zone could deteriorate local marine biota, but in a reversible way.

Organotin compounds (OTs) used to be the most widely used biocide in antifouling paint systems, but the International Maritime Organization (IMO) banned them because of their high environmental toxicity to non-target organisms. Currently, at least 25 active ingredients are being employed as biocides in antifouling paint formulations. In the present study, silicone rubber-based passive sampling was used to determine the freely dissolved concentrations (C) of 6 OTs and 4 booster biocides in the water column at the entrance of Santos Port's main navigation channel, the largest Port of South America (southeastern Brazil).

PFAS has a ubiquitous environmental occurrence, posing challenges to sediment management. To address data gaps concerning release of PFAS from sediment to the water column during dredged material aquatic placement or other sediment resuspension activity, we generated elutriates from PFAS-contaminated sediments. Sediments were obtained from both freshwater and estuarine environments, with a field-collected sediment representative of contaminated areas and a spiked sediment with concentrations exceeding levels frequently measured at contaminated sites.

The Atlantic Sturgeon Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus has suffered population declines throughout its range. Many knowledge gaps exist regarding how to mitigate threats and better inform recovery efforts. This study examined survival of juveniles during their movements through river reaches undergoing channel maintenance dredging operations.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disease, which mainly damages articular cartilage and involves the whole joint tissue. It has the characteristics of long course, repeated symptoms and high disability rate, and the incidence trend is gradually increasing. Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) is the main alkaloid active substance in Ligusticum wallichii, a traditional Chinese medicine, which has the effect of promoting blood circulation and dredging collaterals, and has a good effect on the treatment of early OA, but its molecular mechanism has not been fully clarified so far.

Background: Pulp canal occlusion (PCO) increases the difficulty of root canal treatment as well as tooth preservation and restoration. This is the first case report of successful localization of a calcified root canal under the guidance of a dynamic navigation system (DNS) for complete root canal retreatment and aesthetic restoration after a failed attempt to locate the calcified root canal with a traditional dental operating microscope (DOM).
Case Presentation: The patient was scheduled for root canal treatment for a labially inclined maxillary central incisor and post-core crown restoration with resin veneers in another hospital, but the calcified root canal could not be located with a microscope, so the patient was referred to our department.
