Host-guest interactions control the fundamental processes in porous materials for many applications such as gas storage and catalysis. The study of these processes, however, is not trivial, even if the material is crystalline. In particular, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represent a complex situation since guest molecules can interact with different parts of the organic linkers and the metal clusters and may alter the details of the pore structure and system properties. A prominent example is the so-called retrofitted MOF material TCNQ@Cu(BTC) that has attracted a lot of attention due to its electronic properties induced by the host-guest interactions. Only recently, structural evidence has been presented for a bridging binding mode of TCNQ to two Cu paddlewheel units; however, many issues regarding the redox chemistry of Cu(BTC) and TCNQ are currently unsolved. Herein, we report a powerful spectroscopic approach to study the host-guest chemistry of this material. Combining IR spectroscopy in the presence of CO and EPR spectroscopy, we found that the intrinsic Cu(I) defects of the host react with the guest, forming TCNQ radical anions. This chemistry has profound implications, in particular, with respect to the performance of TCNQ@Cu(BTC) as an electronic conductor. A decreasing availability of open Cu(II) sites with increasing TCNQ loading proves the coordinative binding of TCNQ to the paddlewheel nodes, and a heterogeneous structure is formed with different TCNQ arrangements and pore environments at low TCNQ loadings. Finally, the combined use of spectroscopic characterization techniques has proven to be, in general, a powerful approach for studying the complex chemistry of host-guest materials.

Bone defects are a prevalent issue resulting from various factors, such as trauma, degenerative diseases, congenital disabilities, and the surgical removal of tumors. Current methods for bone regeneration have limitations. In this context, the fusion of tissue engineering and microfluidics has emerged as a promising strategy in the field of bone regeneration.

Fused silica and S-BSL7 glass with 532 nm high reflectivity (HR) coatings were irradiated using Co gamma-ray source at a dose rate of 1 Gy/s for a total dose of 1-500 kGy. After irradiation, the samples were subjected to raster scan testing using a laser with a pulse width of approximately 8.

Context: Phosphate homeostasis was compromised in tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) due to increased fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) secretion. Nevertheless, the glucose metabolic profile in TIO patients has not been investigated.
Objectives: This work aimed to clarify the glucose metabolic profiles in TIO patients and explore their interaction with impaired phosphate homeostasis.

Background: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common pathogens that colonizes human skin/mucous membranes, where it causes local infection that can progress to invasive infection, resulting in high morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the antibiotic susceptibility and molecular characteristics of invasive S. aureus in children and women in Southwest China from 2018 to 2023 to provide novel insights helpful in preventing and treating S.
