Two pentadentate N3,P2 ligands coordinate zinc(ii) by their N3 pocket. Four free phosphine donors allow the coordination of four AuCl moieties leading to a pentanuclear ZnAu4 complex. In contrast, the attempt to use the phosphines for chelating coordination of two Rh(CO)Cl units results in a well-organized rearrangement that ends up with the formation of a metallomacrocycle in high yields.

A Coordination Nanosystem Enables Endogenous Ferric Ion-Initiated Multi-Catalysis for Synergistic Tumor-Specific Ferroptosis and Gene Therapy.

Emerging evidence demonstrates that inducing ferroptosis, a nonapoptotic programmed cell death mode, holds significant potential for tumor treatment. However, current ferroptosis strategies utilizing exogenous Fenton-type heavy metal species or introducing glutathione (GSH)/glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) suppressants are hampered by latent adverse effects toward organisms, while utilizing endogenous iron may cause undesirable tumor angiogenesis through specific signaling pathways. Here, a ferric ion (Fe)-responsive and DNAzyme-delivered coordination nanosystem (ZDD) is developed to achieve a novel scheme of synergistic tumor-specific ferroptosis and gene therapy, which modulates and harnesses the endogenous iron in tumors for inducing ferroptosis while intercepting tumor angiogenesis to enhance therapeutic efficacy.

Minimizing Zn Loss Through Dual Regulation for Reversible Zinc Anode Beyond 90% Utilization Ratio.

Large-scale energy storage devices experience explosive development in response to the increasing energy crisis. Zinc ion batteries featuring low cost, high safe, and environment friendly are considered promising candidates for next-generation energy storage devices. However, their practical application suffers from the limited anode lifespan under a high zinc utilization ratio, which can be attributed to aggravated Zn loss caused by zinc conversion reactions and "dead" Zn.

The extensive use of tetracyclines in livestock poses health risks due to their residues in animal-derived food; therefore, developing simple detection methods to replace complex traditional approaches is of paramount importance. Here, we developed a dual-ligand zinc-based metal-organic framework material, Zn-BTC-BDC-NH (denoted as ZTD), for the detection of tetracyclines. The intrinsic blue fluorescence of ZTD was quenched upon the introduction of tetracyclines due to electron transfer from -NH of ZTD to -CO- and -OH groups of tetracycline molecules; meanwhile, the new green fluorescence emission was generated through π-π stacking between aromatic rings and the formation of complexes between Zn and C-O/C═O groups.

The prostate gland is the largest accessory sex gland in the male reproductive system, and is recognized for its elevated zinc concentration. Recently, the incidence of prostate diseases has increased, posing a significant threat to the health of men. Increasing evidence suggests that maintaining normal prostate function requires proper zinc homeostasis.

Carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals mediated flower-like zinc oxide for antimicrobial without activation of light.

State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, China. Electronic address:

Conventional light-driven antimicrobial strategies of zinc oxide (ZnO) are limited by inadequate illumination in dark environments. In this study, carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals (MCNC) mediated flower-like ZnO (C@Z) with self-promoted reactive oxygen species release under dark is fabricated. The adsorption of Zn ions on MCNC prompts the growth of ZnO along the (002) crystal plane, forming a flower-like hybrid with superior dispersibility and oxygen vacancies compared to MCNC-free ZnO, which exposes the (100) plane.
