The Lewis acid-catalyzed annulations between anthranils and γ-butyrolactone-fused donor-acceptor cyclopropanes have been developed. Depending on the anthranils used, such annulations proceeded in a chemodivergent way to produce either bridged cyclic products via [4 + 3] annulation or γ-butyrolactone-fused tetrahydroquinoline products via a cascade process in moderate to high yields. A probable mechanism for the two reaction pathways has been proposed. The reaction could be performed on a gram-scale, and the products could be elaborated to other useful cyclic structures bearing multiple contiguous stereogenic centers.

Chemodivergent dearomatization of benzene-linked O-oxime esters EnT-induced radical cross-coupling.

Radical-mediated dearomatization strategies offer a blueprint for building value-added and synthetically valuable three-dimensional skeletons from readily available aromatic starting materials. Herein, we report a novel strategy by leveraging benzene-linked O-oxime esters as triply functionalized precursors to form two distinct persistent radicals under a chemodivergent pathway. These radicals then couple with a cyclohexadienyl radical for either carboamination or carbo-aminoalkylation.

Chemodivergent and Enantioselective Synthesis of Spirobi[dihydrophenalene] Structures.

Department of Chemistry, School of Science, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing 211198, People's Republic of China.

The development and enantioselective synthesis of two types of -symmetric spirobi[dihydrophenalene] structures is reported. The reaction proceeds via rhodium-catalyzed 2-fold asymmetric conjugate arylation of dienones followed by BF·OEt-promoted spirocyclization to give the enantiopure spiro products. Additive-dependent chemodivergent synthesis of 3,3'-diarylated 2,2',3,3'-tetrahydro-1,1'-spirobi[phenalene]-9,9'-diols (3,3'-Ar-SPHENOLs) and the corresponding spiro diary ethers from the same intermediate is achieved.

A condition-controlled Rh(III)-catalyzed selective synthesis of CF-substituted indoles and pyrido[2,1-]isoindoles from 2-arylpyridines and CF-imidoyl sulfoxonium ylides has been developed. The Cp*Rh(MeCN)(SbF)/HFIP system afforded CF-substituted indoles via triple C-H activation, while the [Cp*RhCl]/MeCN condition selectively furnished CF-substituted pyrido[2,1-]isoindoles through C-H [4 + 1] annulation. The notable advantages of this developed method included readily available starting materials, broad substrate scope, and excellent chemoselectivity.

Chemodivergent, enantio- and regioselective couplings of alkynes, aldehydes and silanes enabled by nickel/N-heterocyclic carbene catalysis.

Divergent synthesis of valuable molecules through common starting materials and metal catalysis represents a longstanding challenge and a significant research goal. We here describe chemodivergent, highly enantio- and regioselective nickel-catalyzed reductive and dehydrogenative coupling reactions of alkynes, aldehydes, and silanes. A single chiral Ni-based catalyst is leveraged to directly prepare three distinct enantioenriched products (silyl-protected trisubstituted chiral allylic alcohols, oxasilacyclopentenes, and silicon-stereogenic oxasilacyclopentenes) in a single chemical operation.

A solvent-controlled unprecedented tandem reaction of readily accessible SeO, a wide variety of sulfonyl hydrazides, and alkynes has been established for the chemodivergent construction of structurally complex 1,2-bis(()-1-aryl-2-arylsulfonylvinyl)diselanes and bis(()-1-aryl-2-(arylsulfonyl)vinyl)selanes via a catalyst-free one-pot three-component approach, respectively. The adjustable and controlled synthetic strategy shows good yields and chemoselectivities for most substrates under mild and simple conditions.
