Photonic sensors that are able to detect and track biochemical molecules offer powerful tools for information acquisition in applications ranging from environmental analysis to medical diagnosis. The ultimate aim of biochemical sensing is to achieve both quantitative sensitivity and selectivity. As atomically thick films with remarkable optoelectronic tunability, graphene and its derived materials have shown unique potential as a chemically tunable platform for sensing, thus enabling significant performance enhancement, versatile functionalization and flexible device integration. Here, we demonstrate a partially reduced graphene oxide () inner-coated and fiber-calibrated Fabry-Perot dye resonator for biochemical detection. Versatile functionalization in the prGO film enables the intracavity fluorescent resonance energy transfer (FRET) to be chemically selective in the visible band. Moreover, by measuring the intermode interference via noise canceled beat notes and locked-in heterodyne detection with Hz-level precision, we achieved individual molecule sensitivity for dopamine, nicotine and single-strand DNA detection. This work combines atomic-layer nanoscience and high-resolution optoelectronics, providing a way toward high-performance biochemical sensors and systems.

Hydrogen peroxide (HO), as a strong oxidant, is crucial for the aerobic metabolism of organisms and is intricately linked to the onset of numerous diseases. Real-time monitor HO levels in the environment and biological microenvironment is of paramount importance for environment protection and elucidating HO-related physiological and pathological processes. In this study, a novel near-infrared fluorescence imaging platform was developed and a near-infrared fluorescent probe FBMH was constructed based on the platform with photoinduced electron transfer mechanism.

Glycans, nucleic acids and proteins are three major classes of natural biopolymers. The extremely high diversity of isomerization makes structural elucidation of glycans the most challenging job among three classes. In the past few years, the single molecule sensing technique based on nanopores has achieved great success in sequencing of DNA.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology has attracted more and more attention due to its high sensitivity, low water interference, and quick measurement. Constructing high-performance SERS substrates with high sensitivity, uniformity and reproducibility is of great importance to put the SERS technology into practical application. In this paper, we report a simple fabrication process to construct dense silver-coated PMMA nanoparticles-on-a-mirror SRES substrates.

The gastrointestinal tract can be deranged by ailments including sepsis, trauma and haemorrhage. Ischaemic injury provokes a common constellation of microscopic and macroscopic changes that, together with the paradoxical exacerbation of cellular dysfunction and death following restoration of blood flow, are collectively known as ischaemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Although much of the gastrointestinal tract is normally hypoxemic, intestinal IRI results when there is inadequate oxygen availability due to poor supply (pathological hypoxia) or abnormal tissue oxygen use and metabolism (dysoxia).
