This study aimed to extend the application of soundscape analysis by utilizing electroencephalogram (EEG) analysis as a physiological evaluation tool to determine the actual restorative impact on individual environmental perceptions and psycho-physiological responses stemming from various soundscape experiences. Initially, we constructed three distinct virtual reality (VR) environments: waterfront, urban, and green areas, each accompanied by three content variations. A total of 60 subjects participated in the study.

Auditory salience is a fundamental property of a sound that allows it to grab a listener's attention regardless of their attentional state or behavioral goals. While previous research has shed light on acoustic factors influencing auditory salience, the semantic dimensions of this phenomenon have remained relatively unexplored owing both to the complexity of measuring salience in audition as well as limited focus on complex natural scenes. In this study, we examine the relationship between acoustic, contextual, and semantic attributes and their impact on the auditory salience of natural audio scenes using a dichotic listening paradigm.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a global event affecting all aspects of human life and society, including acoustic aspects. In this Special Issue on COVID-19 and acoustics, we present 48 papers discussing the acoustical impacts of the pandemic and how we deal with it. The papers are divided into seven categories which include: physical masking and speech production, speech perception, noise, the underwater soundscape, the urban soundscape, pathogen transmissibility, and medical diagnosis.
