Gut dysbiosis is linked to mortality and the development of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), but the impact of cutaneous dysbiosis remains unexplored. We performed a pilot observational study and obtained retroauricular and forearm skin swabs from 12 adult patients prior to conditioning chemotherapy/radiation, and at 1-week, 1-month and 3-months after allogeneic HSCT, and performed shotgun metagenomic sequencing. The cutaneous microbiome among HSCT patients was enriched for gram-negative bacteria such as E coli and Pseudomonas, fungi, and viruses.

Background: Despite decades of post-allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) growth factor utilization, its role remains undefined, leading to ongoing debates and research. The theoretical impacts of growth factors have been challenged in numerous studies.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study conducted at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, we analyzed the clinical outcomes of 509 patients who underwent allogeneic HCT between May 1, 2019, and May 31, 2022.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that is relapsed and/or refractory post-allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is usually fatal. In a prior study, we demonstrated that AML relapse in high-risk patients was prevented by post-HCT immunotherapy with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-specific donor CD8 T cells engineered to express a high-affinity Wilms Tumor Antigen 1 (WT1)-specific T-cell receptor (T). However, in the present study, infusion of EBV- or Cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific T did not clearly improve outcomes in fifteen patients with active disease post-HCT.

Previous studies have demonstrated the protective effect of CMV-R against relapse after allo-HSCT for acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML). However, this impact remains unclear in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

This case report highlights sorafenib as maintenance therapy postallogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) in a young patient with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with FMS-like tirosine kinase-3 (FLT3)-internal tandem duplication (ITD) mutation. Given the high relapse risk in FLT3-ITD-positive AML, the tyrosine kinase inhibitor sorafenib was administered. Several studies have shown that sorafenib improves survival in younger AML patients when combined with chemotherapy, though side effects can limit use in older patients.
