Published: March 2020

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of prophylactic central neck dissection (pCND) in hemithyroidectomy for clinically node-negative papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 299 patients who underwent thyroid lobectomy with or without pCND for unilateral PTC. Of the 299 patients, 245 (81.9%) underwent unilateral pCND along with lobectomy, and 54 (18.1%) patients underwent lobectomy without pCND. Propensity score matching was performed for five covariates to reduce selection bias.

Results: In the baseline cohort of 299 patients, mean age, extrathyroidal extension, T classification and stage were higher in the cases undergoing pCND than in those not undergoing pCND. After propensity score matching, the significant differences between the two groups seen in the baseline cohort disappeared. Recurrence rates and recurrence-free survival curves did not differ between the 2 matched groups each of 54 patients.

Conclusion: The value of pCND in hemithyroidectomy for PTC is limited.

Introduction: To target psychological support to cancer patients most in need of support, screening for psychological distress has been advocated and, in some settings, also implemented. Still, no prior studies have examined the appropriate 'dosage' and whether screening for distress before cancer treatment may be sufficient or if further screenings during treatment are necessary. We examined the development in symptom trajectories for breast cancer patients with low distress before surgery and explored potential risk factors for developing burdensome symptoms at a later point in time.

Background And Objectives: Faricimab, a bispecific antibody targeting VEGF-A and angiopoietin-2, has shown promise in treating neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). This study evaluates 1-year outcomes of faricimab in treatment-experienced nAMD patients.

Methods: This single-centre retrospective cohort study included patients previously treated for nAMD who switched to faricimab between November 2022 and March 2024.

Objectives: Define the extent to which pathogenic GJB2 (gap junction beta-2) variants are responsible for non-syndromic hearing loss (NSHL) in the Asian population.

Methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. CINAHL, Embase, and PubMed's MEDLINE were accessed from 1997 to 2023 using permutations of the MeSH terms: "Asian," ''Southeast Asian,'' "South Asian," "East Asian," "Southeastern Asian," and "GJB2.

Unlabelled: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) found to be associated with Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) to date, are characterized by an apparent reduced penetrance into the phenotype suggesting a role of other factors in the etiology of AGA.

Objective: We conducted a study to investigate the role of specific allelic variants in AGA controlling for nutritional and lifestyle factors.

Methods: Individual patterns of SNPs present in the baldness susceptibility locus at 20p11 (rs1160312 and rs6113491) or close to the androgen receptor (AR) gene in chromosome X (rs1041668) were investigated in 212 male subjects.

Background: The dietary intake of hospitalised patients is often compromised during hospitalisation, which can be a causal factor for hospital malnutrition. This is considered a public health problem worldwide and is associated with an increased risk of other complications.

Objectives: Our objective was to determine the dietary intake of hospitalised individuals and if the prescribed diet influences it.
