About 25.7 million tons of waste tires (WT) are discarded each year worldwide causing important environmental, and health problems. This waste is difficult to manage and dispose due to its huge rate of generation and its extremely slow biodegradation.

Oily wastewater is becoming a concern worldwide due to its quantities and the presence of contaminants and its sustainable treatment should be cost-effective and meet all requirements so the contaminants are not transferred to the environment. The paper reviews the state-of-the-art in the oily wastewater treatment by electrochemical processes such as electrochemical advanced oxidation processes and electrocoagulation. Efficiency of oily wastewater treatment has been thoroughly investigated with its expression as a function of the main technological (process) parameters.

The final disposal of waste generated by human activities has been turned into a great challenge; until now, little attention has been paid to organic waste, particularly from the restaurant sector. This work describes the process of obtaining calcium carbonate contained in oyster and clam shells re-collected in seafood restaurants. The IR absorption spectra of all the samples revealed the presence of characteristic bands of the carbonate group located at 872, 712 and 1414 cm; the peak at 1081 cm of the clamshells confirms the presence of the aragonite phase.

There is considerable attention devoted to the use of agricultural waste as a raw material substitute for commercial silica in the development of borosilicate glasses doped with rare earth oxides. Here, we present a novel structure for borosilicate glasses made from rice husk ash with a 25% molar ratio of extracted SiO and doped with neodymium (GRN) or dysprosium (GRD). Adding rare earth oxides to borosilicate glasses by the melt quenching method enhanced optical transmission due to the presence of their tetrahedral geometries.

The presence of manufactured nano-objects (MNOs) in various consumer or their (future large-scale) use as nanoagrochemical have increased with the rapid development of nanotechnology and therefore, concerns associated with its possible ecotoxicological effects are also arising. MNOs are releasing along the product life cycle, consequently accumulating in soils and other environmental matrices, and potentially leading to adverse effects on soil biota and their associated processes. Earthworms, of the group of Oligochaetes, are an ecologically significant group of organisms and play an important role in soil remediation, as well as acting as a potential vector for trophic transfer of MNOs through the food chain.
