Introduction: The increasing knowledge of adropin, afamin, and neudesin and the regulation of glucose metabolism and insulin resistance allows for the assessment of the differences in their concentrations between the groups with varied duration of diabetes mellitus (DM).

Aim Of The Study: Assessment of serum levels of adropin, afamin, and neudesin in children with type 1 diabetes, with respect to the disease duration.

Materials And Methods: The study consisted of 138 patients aged 5-18 years (M 40.58%). Children with type 1 diabetes ( = 68) were compared to the control group ( = 70). The diabetic group was divided into 4 subgroups: (I) newly diagnosed patients, after an episode of ketoacidosis ( = 14), (II) duration no longer than 5 years ( = 18), (III) 5 to 10 years ( = 27), and (IV) longer than 10 years ( = 9). Serum concentrations of adropin, afamin, and neudesin were assessed and compared between the groups of patients. The criterion for statistical significance was < 0.05.

Results: The concentrations of adropin and afamin across all subgroups were lower than that in the control group, while neudesin levels were higher in diabetic patients compared to the control group. The differences were statistically significant.

Conclusions: Adropin, afamin, and neudesin may play a major role in the regulation of glucose metabolism and have a significant potential as novel biomarkers to predict future metabolic disorders. However, further multicentre studies on a larger cohort of patients are necessary to specify the role of these substances in the course and treatment of type 1 diabetes.

Aim: The study aims to test the hypothesis that concentrations of adropin and afamin differ between patients in various stages of chronic kidney disease when compared with healthy controls. The study also investigates the association of the biomarkers (adropin and afamin) with CKD-MBD and traditional cardiovascular risk parameters in CKD patients.

Methodology: The cross-sectional study includes the subjects divided into four groups comprising the control group (healthy volunteers = 50), CKD stages 1-2 patients ( = 50), CKD stages 3-4 patients ( = 50), CKD stage 5 patients ( = 50).

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has become a major public health problem and one of the most discussed issues in modern obstetrics. GDM is associated with serious adverse perinatal outcomes and long-term health consequences for both the mother and child. Currently, the importance and purposefulness of finding a biopredictor that will enable the identification of women with an increased risk of developing GDM as early as the beginning of pregnancy are highly emphasized.

Purpose: The relationship between hepatokine levels during the first or early second trimester of pregnancy and the subsequent risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have been studied extensively. However, conclusions remain debateable whether hepatokines are potential markers of GDM. We conducted a meta-analysis of published articles to understand the association between circulating levels of selected hepatokines (including FGF21, fetuin-A, afamin, adropin, ficolin-3, selenoprotein P, ANGPTL4 and AGF) and the risk of GDM.

The aim of the study was to determine serum concentrations of afamin and adropin in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis and to define their correlation with the stage of disease. The study included 99 patients with alcoholic cirrhosis from the region of Lublin, (Eastern Poland). Liver cirrhosis was diagnosed based on clinical features, history of heavy alcohol consumption, laboratory tests and abdominal ultrasonography.
