Recent studies have explored the association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in microRNAs (miRNAs) and ischemic stroke (IS). In particular, the associations of rs2910164 (miRNA-146A), rs11614913 (miRNA-196A2), and rs3746444 (miRNA-499A) were intensively studied in IS. In this study, we investigated the associations between SNPs in miRNAs and IS including rs2910164, rs11614913, and rs3746444 in a Korean population. For a pilot study, we selected 19 SNPs in pre-miRNA region (including mature miRNA region) and genotyped in 140 IS patients and 240 control subjects using the Fluidigm Dynamic Array. Our pilot study showed a weak association of rs79402775 in miRNA-933 ( = 0.044) and a relatively strong association of rs35196866 in miRNA-4669 ( = 0.016) with IS. From the pilot study, we selected rs79402775, rs35196866, and rs7202008 (miRNA-2117; = 0.055) as candidate miRNA SNPs on IS and further genotyped these SNPs in 264 IS patients and 455 control subjects using direct sequencing. In addition, we further analyzed the associations of rs2910164, rs11614913, and rs3746444 that have been intensively studied in previous studies. In the further analysis, we found the significant association between rs35196866 and IS ( = 0.0014 in additive model and = 0.00015 in dominant model; = 0.00037 in allele frequency analysis). However, the association between rs2910164, rs11614913, rs3746444, rs79402775, and rs7202008 and IS was not shown. These results suggest that miRNA-4669 may be involved in the susceptibility of IS.

Background: microRNAs (miRNAs) are small, noncoding RNA molecules, functioning either as oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. SNPs in miRNAs might modify the expression of genes associated with miRNAs, enhancing susceptibility to breast cancer. Both miRNA-146a (rs2910164) and miRNA-196a (rs11614913) are identified and significantly associated with breast cancer risk in several ethnicities, but remains unexplored in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa population of Pakistan.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to investigate the association between two genetic polymorphisms (rs2910164 miR-146a and rs11614913 miR-196a2) and the condition endometriosis in about 120 women.
  • - Researchers used real-time polymerase chain reaction to analyze the polymorphisms and applied statistical tests like chi-square and logistic regression for their analysis.
  • - Findings indicated no significant differences in the frequencies of the polymorphisms between women with endometriosis and those without, concluding that these genetic variations do not influence the development of the condition.

Polymorphisms in long non-coding RNA and microRNA genes may play a significant role in the susceptibility and progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The current study investigates the polymorphisms HOTAIR rs920778, MIR155HG rs1893650, TERC rs10936599, miR-155 rs767649, miR-196a2 rs11614913 and miR-146a rs2910164 in 102 PTC patients and 106 age- and sex-matched controls of the Caucasian Serbian population, using real-time PCR. We observed differences in genotype distributions of the HOTAIR rs920778 ( = 0.

Background: miRNAs are non-coding RNAs participating actively in the post-translational regulation of oncogenes, tumor suppressor, and DNA repair genes implicated in colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aims to examine the association of the variants (rs895819 A>G), (rs11614913 T>G) and (rs2910164 C>G) in Mexican CRC patients.

Methods: DNA samples from 183 patients and 186 healthy Mexican subjects were analyzed.
