Background: Fluoroquinolone-resistant poses a therapeutic challenge when implicated in urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, pneumonia, skin infections, osteomyelitis, and respiratory infections. The mutant prevention concentration (MPC) represents a concentration threshold above which increase of resistant mutants occurs rarely. The aim of the present study is to determine the MPC among ciprofloxacin-resistant clinical isolates.
Materials And Methods: A total of 240 clinical isolates of were collected from a tertiary care hospital. The MPCs were determined for 24 selected strains using an inoculum of 10 CFU/ml in Müller-Hinton agar plates with serial/various concentrations (0.003-100 g) of ciprofloxacin. In addition to the MPC, phenotypic screening for ESBL, AmpC, and carbapenemase was performed. The detection of genes for 24 isolates and DNA sequencing for six isolates were performed.
Results: Ciprofloxacin resistance was observed in 19.6% of the clinical isolates. Among the ciprofloxacin-resistant isolates, 14 isolates showed an MPC value of more than 100 g. The MPC ranged between 100 g and 20 g for ciprofloxacin-resistant isolates. ESBL producers and gene-producing strains had a high MPC. 11 isolates showed the presence of either or genes. None of the samples showed the presence of the gene.
Conclusion: From our study, we infer that ESBL producers and gene-possessing strains are frequently resistant to ciprofloxacin. Estimation of the MPC in the case of multidrug-resistant isolates in the clinical setup may help in treating these drug-resistant strains.

The objective of this study was to describe an outbreak of equine herpesvirus-1 myeloencephalopathy (EHM) in a population of aged equids. The outbreak was linked to the introduction of five healthy non-resident horses 15 days prior to the first case of acute recumbency. This fulminant EHM outbreak was predisposed by the grouping of the 33 unvaccinated animals in two large pens with shared water and feed troughs.

Rotavirus group A (RVA) is a major cause of pediatric acute gastroenteritis (AGE). Vaccination is an effective public health strategy and Angola implemented it in 2014. This hospital-based study aimed to estimate the prevalence of RVA infection and the severity of AGE in children under five years of age treated at six hospitals in Luanda Province.

During the past 25 years, vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) has produced multiple outbreaks in the US, resulting in the emergence of different viral lineages. Currently, very little is known about the pathogenesis of many of these lineages, thus limiting our understanding of the potential biological factors favoring each lineage in these outbreaks. In this study, we aimed to determine the potential phenotypic differences between two VSV Indiana (VSIV) serotype epidemic strains using a pig model.

Objectives Of The Study: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the epidemiology and clinical course of chickenpox in children based on 6 years of self-reported observations.
Material And Methods: The medical records of 350 patients under 18 years of age hospitalised in the Department of Paediatrics, Infectious Diseases, and Hepatology between 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2023 were analysed retrospectively.
Results: During the analysed period, 350 children were hospitalised due to chickenpox, the fewest in the pandemic period, the greatest number in 2023.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) disproportionately affects certain sub-populations, including people with experience of incarceration (PWEI). Little is known about how perceptions of HCV and treatment have changed despite simplifications in testing and treatment in carceral settings. Nineteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with people living with or having a history of HCV infection released from Quebec provincial prison.
