Commensal bacterial population is believed to be a reservoir for antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). The infant gut microbiota has relatively higher abundance of ARGs than the adults. These genes can get transferred from commensals to pathogens by horizontal gene transfer, which magnifies the spectrum of antibiotic resistance in the environment. The presence of ARGs in neo-nates and infants, with no prior antibiotic exposure, questions their origin in the naïve commensal population. Breast milk microbiota that is responsible for the initial seeding of infant gut microbiota has also been found to harbour a vast array of ARGs. This review discusses the recent findings that indicate the potential of breast milk microbiota to act as a vehicle for transmission of ARGs to infants.
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of supplementary feeding with Chinese herbal mixtures on perinatal sows, focusing on their reproductive performance, immunity and breast milk quality. Sixty healthy pregnant sows (Large white, 4 parities) were randomly allocated into five treatment groups ( = 12 per group): the control group received a basal diet, the TRT1 group received a basal diet supplemented with 2 kg/t Bazhen powder (BZP), while the TRT2, TRT3, and TRT4 groups received a basal diet supplemented with 1 kg/t, 2 kg/t, and 3 kg/t Qi-Zhu-Gui-Shao soothing liver and replenishing blood powder (QZGSP), respectively. The trial lasted for a duration of 5 weeks, commencing from day 100 of gestation and concluding on day 21 postpartum.

Background: Numerous studies have highlighted the impact of bacterial communities on the quality and safety of raw ewe milk-derived cheeses. Despite reported differences in the microbiota among cheese types and even producers, to the best of our knowledge, no study has comprehensively assessed all potential microbial sources and their contributions to any raw ewe milk-derived cheese, which could suppose great potential for benefits from research in this area.
