Closed reduction is an effective treatment for arytenoid dislocation. The treatment is usually given more than once to obtain normal voice. However, when to perform the next closed reduction remains controversial. This study aimed to observe the regularity of the voice recovery and the arytenoid motion in patients with arytenoid dislocation after closed reduction. Thirty-one patients were recruited from September 2017 to April 2019. Results of their clinical data were reviewed retrospectively. Among the thirty-one patients, their VHI scores, F0, jitter%, shimmer%, glottal-to-noise excitation %(GNE), maximum phonation time (MPT) and GRBAS Scale (G, R, B, A) improved significantly ( < .05), but there was no statistically significant difference for GRBAS Scale (S) (>.05). The duration between last closed reduction and the restoring normal voice ranged from 1-8 days, with a mean of 4.65 ± 0.57 days, at the same time the glottis was completely closed. Closed reduction for patients with arytenoid dislocation is an effective procedure. A time window between 4.08th and 5.22th day (at a confidence level of 95%) after the last closed reduction was identified to be critical for voice recovery.

UV-A exposure is a major risk factor for melanoma, nonmelanoma skin cancer, photoaging, and exacerbation of photodermatoses. Since people spend considerable time in cars daily, inadequate UV-A attenuation by car windows can significantly contribute to the onset or exacerbation of these skin diseases. Given recent market trends in the automobile industry and known impact of car windows on cumulative lifelong UV damage to the skin, there is a need to comparatively evaluate UV transmission across windows in electric vehicles (EV), hybrid vehicles (HV), and gas vehicles (GV) as well as variability based on year of manufacture and mileage to inform car manufacturers and consumers of the potential for UV exposure to the skin based on vehicle.

Intraoperative sensitization in trigeminal region caused by postherpetic neuralgia: a case report.

J Med Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Pain, The Third Xiangya Hospital and Institute of Pain Medicine, Central South University, Changsha, China.

Background: Interventional therapy of trigeminal neuropathic pain has been well documented; however, intraoperative monitoring and management of pain hypersensitivity remains barely reported, which may pose a great challenge for pain physicians as well as anesthesiologists.

Case Presentation: A 77-year-old Han Chinese male, who suffered from severe craniofacial postherpetic neuralgia, underwent pulsed radiofrequency of trigeminal ganglion in the authors' department twice. The authors successfully placed a radiofrequency needle through the foramen ovale during the first procedure with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation (dexmedetomidine).

Background: In the United States, complete abstinence persists as the standard for demonstrating recovery success from substance use disorders (SUDs), apart from alcohol use disorder (AUD). Although the FDA has recently indicated openness for non-abstinence outcomes as treatment targets, the traditional benchmark of complete abstinence for new medications to treat SUDs remains a hurdle and overshadows other non-abstinent outcomes desired by people with SUDs (e.g.

20-HETE mediates Ang II-induced cardiac hypertrophy via ROS and Ca signaling in H9c2 cells.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Physiology, Zunyi Medical University, Campus No.1 Road, Xinpu New District, Zunyi, 563006, Guizhou, China.

In the vascular system, angiotensin II (Ang II) mediated vasoconstriction by inducing the production of 20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (20-HETE). However, the role of 20-HETE in Ang II-induced cardiac dysfunction had yet to be fully elucidated. This study investigated the effects of Ang II on CYP4A expression and 20-HETE production in H9c2 cells using RT-qPCR, Western blot, and ELISA.
