A novel chitosan derivative, O-acrylamidomethyl-N-[(2-hydroxy-3- dimethyldodecylammonium) propyl] chitosan chloride (NMA-HDCC), was synthesized by reacting chitosan (CTS) with epoxypropyl dodecyl dimethyl quaternary ammonium salt and N-methylolacryl amide (NMA). The chemical structure of the quaternized chitosan was analyzed by FTIR and NMR. The water soluble derivative can form covalent bonding with cellulosic fibers and bring quaternary salt groups onto the fibers. Anti-bacterial as well as salt-free reactive dyeing properties of the treated cotton samples were analyzed. The NMA-HDCC treated cotton fabrics showed durable antimicrobial functions even after 30 consecutive home launderings. The cotton treated with the chitosan and different chitosan derivatives showed improved uptakes, fixation rates, K/S values and fastness of reactive dyes without using auxiliary salt.

Severe traumatic bleeding and chronic diabetic wounds require rapid hemostasis and multifunctional dressings, which remain particularly challenging, especially for non-compressible trauma and irregular wounds with dysregulated microenvironments. Chitosan (CS) can be easily cross-linked with genipin to form GpCS hydrogels. However, developing injectable GpCS hydrogels for biomedical applications faces challenges, particularly in enhancing rapid gel formation and optimizing physical properties.

Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are life-threatening conditions characterized by severe inflammation and respiratory failure. Despite the use of dexamethasone (Dex) in treatment, challenges such as poor solubility and systemic side effects persist, highlighting the need for novel therapeutic approaches. This study introduces an innovative nanoparticle delivery system based on chitosan (CS) and polysialic acid (PSA), engineered via electrostatic assembly, to improve the targeted delivery of Dex to inflamed lung tissues.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) resulting from cisplatin (Cs) chemotherapy presents a significant challenge in clinical management. The study aimed to fabricate a novel compound Polyvinylpyrrolidone-catechol-derived chitosan nanoconjugates (PCChi-NC) for targeting Cs-induced AKI. Characterization studies utilizing UV-visible spectrophotometry, FT-IR, XRD, and TEM revealed a spherical morphology with diameters ranging from 20 to 60 nm.
