Previous work examining the condensed-phase products of squalene particle ozonolysis found that an increase in water vapor concentration led to lower concentrations of secondary ozonides, increased concentrations of carbonyls, and smaller particle diameter, suggesting that water changes the fate of the Criegee intermediate. To determine if this volume loss corresponds to an increase in gas-phase products, we measured gas-phase volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations via proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Studies were conducted in a flow-tube reactor at atmospherically relevant ozone (O) exposure levels (5-30 ppb h) with pure squalene particles. An increase in water vapor concentration led to strong enhancement of gas-phase oxidation products at all tested O exposures. An increase in water vapor from near zero to 70% relative humidity (RH) at high O exposure increased the total mass concentration of gas-phase VOCs by a factor of 3. The observed fraction of carbon in the gas-phase correlates with the fraction of particle volume lost. Experiments involving O oxidation of shirts soiled with skin oil confirms that the RH dependence of gas-phase reaction product generation occurs similarly on surfaces containing skin oil under realistic conditions. Similar behavior is expected for O reactions with other surface-bound organics containing unsaturated carbon bonds.

Background: Human milk banks (HMBs) offer the best feed for neonates after mother's own milk (MOM), especially when MOM is insufficient. Although HMBs are founded on standard protocols, contamination and wastage of milk due to positive milk cultures remain a problem. Present study was planned as a quality improvement (QI) initiative to reduce culture rates at the HMB.

Alpine meadows are vital ecosystems on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, significantly contributing to water conservation and climate regulation. This study examines the energy flux patterns and their driving factors in the alpine meadows of the Qilian Mountains, focusing on how the meteorological variables of net radiation (), air temperature, vapor pressure deficit (), wind speed (), and soil water content () influence sensible heat flux () and latent heat flux (). Using the Bowen ratio energy balance method, we monitored energy changes during the growing and non-growing seasons from 2022 to 2023.

Increasing the flame retardancy of lignocellulosic materials such as × can effectively enable their wide use. This study examines the fireproofing process of Miscanthus particles using an eco-friendly process by grafting phytic acid and urea in aqueous solution. Miscanthus particles underwent a steam explosion step before being grafted.

This study presents the fabrication of a sustainable flexible humidity sensor utilizing chitosan derived from mealworm biomass as the primary sensing material. The chitosan-based humidity sensor was fabricated by casting chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) films with interdigitated copper electrodes, forming a laminate composite suitable for real-time, resistive-type humidity detection. Comprehensive characterization of the chitosan film was performed using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, contact angle measurements, and tensile testing, which confirmed its chemical structure, wettability, and mechanical stability.

To solve the issue of inconvenient and dangerous manual operation during the installation and removal of the main pipe plugging plate in the steam generator in nuclear power plants, a ten-degree-of-freedom plugging robot was designed in the present study that includes a collaborative robotic arm coupled with a servo electric cylinder. By establishing a joint coordinate system for the robot model, a D-H parameter model for the plate plugging robot was established, and the forward and inverse kinematics were solved. The volume level approximate convex decomposition algorithm was used to fit the steam generator model with a convex packet, and an experimental simulation platform was constructed.
