This article presents the results of a comprehensive study of copper-exchanged mordenite samples prepared from its ammonia and protonated forms (Si/Al = 10) using two different ion exchange methods: conventional and microwave (MW)-assisted. The protonated H-MOR-10 sample was obtained by calcination of commercial NHMOR-10; in this case, a slight degradation of the mordenite framework was observed, but the resulting defects were partially restored after the first ion-exchange procedure of protons for copper ions. The level of copper exchange in the studied materials was found to be limited to 70%. Regardless of the exchange procedure, the replacement of ammonium or proton ions with copper led to a linear increase in the ratio of cell parameters in accordance with an increase in the level of copper exchange, which means that all Cu cations are ion-exchangeable and enter the main mordenite channel. Thermal analysis indicated a correlation between the replacement of various ammonium and hydroxyl groups by copper ions during the exchange treatment and their dehydroxylation energy during thermal decomposition. As a conclusion: MW-assisted treatment proved itself as an efficacious method for the synthesis of copper-exchanged mordenites, which not only significantly reduces preparation time but leads to a systematically higher copper exchange level.

Improper management of wood impregnation chemicals and treated wood has led to soil contamination at many wood treatment sites, particularly with toxic substances like creosote oil and chromated copper arsenate (CCA). The simultaneous presence of these pollutants complicates the choice of soil remediation technologies, especially if they are to be applied in situ. In this laboratory study, we attempted to immobilise arsenic (As) and simultaneously degrade polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) (constituents of creosote oil) by applying a modified electrochemical oxidation method.

Electrolysis of carbon dioxide (CO2) in acid offers a promising route to overcome CO2 loss in alkaline and neutral electrolytes, but requires concentrated alkali cations (typical ≥3 M) to mitigate the trade-off between low pH and high hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) rate, causing salt precipitation. Here we report a strategy to resolve this problem by introducing tensile strain in a copper (Cu) catalyst, which can selectively reduce CO2 to valuable multicarbon products, particularly ethylene, in a pH 1 electrolyte with 1 M potassium ions. We find that the tension-strained Cu creates an electron-rich surface that concentrates diluted potassium ions, contributing to CO2 activation and HER suppression.

Brochantite was precipitated using stoichiometric amounts of CuSO and NaOH and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, specific surface area, thermogravimetric analysis, and zeta potential. Brochantite can be converted into paratacamite, basic copper bromide, and copper phthalate by shaking the powder with solutions containing excess corresponding anions. By contrast, attempts to convert brochantite into basic iodide, acetate, nitrate, or rhodanide in a similar way failed, that is, the powder after shaking with solutions containing excess corresponding anions still showed the powder X-ray diffraction pattern of brochantite.

The oral administration of drugs for cancer therapy can maintain optimal blood concentrations, is biologically safe and simple, and is preferred by many patients. However, the complex lumen environment, mucus layer, and intestinal epithelial cells are biological barriers that hinder the absorption of orally administered drugs. In this study, sea urchin-like manganese-doped copper selenide nanoparticles (Mn-CuSe NPs) were designed using an anion exchange method and coated with calcium alginate and chitosan (AC) to form Mn-CuSe@AC capsules.

The sensitive and accurate detection of copper ions is crucial for public health, medical research, and environmental monitoring. In this study, we developed a sensor based on template-assembly activation of the primer exchange reaction (PER) for the on-site detection of copper ions in blood. Copper ions triggered the assembly of two template fragments into a hairpin structure via a click-chemistry reaction, activating the PER.
