Background: Nivolumab is a standard treatment for previously treated advanced renal-cell carcinoma. However, nivolumab is effective in only a limited number of patients; therefore, we evaluated the prognostic value of several biomarkers, including inflammation-based prognostic scores and changes in these scores following nivolumab treatment in Japanese patients with metastatic renal-cell carcinoma.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 65 patients with previously treated metastatic renal-cell carcinoma and who received nivolumab. Inflammation-based prognostic scores, including neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, lymphocyte/monocyte ratio, and Glasgow prognostic score before and 6 weeks after the treatment were recorded. Categorical variables influencing disease-specific survival were compared using Cox proportional-hazards regression models.

Results: Univariate analysis showed that Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center risk score (P = 0.0052), lactate dehydrogenase (P = 0.0266), lymphocyte/monocyte ratio (P = 0.0113), and platelet/lymphocyte ratio (P = 0.0017) had a significant effect on disease-specific survival. Multivariate analyses showed that platelet/lymphocyte ratio and lactate dehydrogenase were found to be independent prognostic factors for disease-specific survival (P = 0.0008, risk ratio (RR) = 7.95, 95% confidence interval, 2.16-51.64 and P = 0.0123, RR = 3.92, 95% confidence interval, 1.37-10.80, respectively). The combination of platelet/lymphocyte ratio and lactate dehydrogenase was the most significant prognostic biomarker in metastatic renal-cell carcinoma (P < 0.0001). Changes in lymphocyte/monocyte ratio and platelet/lymphocyte ratio in response to nivolumab were significant prognostic factors for disease-specific survival (P < 0.0001 and P = 0.0477, respectively).

Conclusions: The combination of platelet/lymphocyte ratio and lactate dehydrogenase may be a potential biomarker for estimating disease-specific survival in Japanese patients with metastatic renal-cell carcinoma treated by nivolumab.

Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a common malignancy, and nephrectomy is the mainstay of treatment for non-metastatic disease. The choice of surgery depends on the risks of oncologic recurrence, kidney function decline, and perioperative complications. This study aimed to identify factors associated with adverse post-operative outcomes in RCC patients undergoing nephrectomy at Townsville University Hospital (TUH).

To understand the clinicopathological and molecular genetic characteristics of aggressive renal mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma (MTSCC). The clinical features, histology, immunophenotype, molecular characteristics and prognosis of 4 cases of metastatic/recurrent renal MTSCC that were submitted to the Peking University Third Hospital (2 cases), Institute of Urology, Peking University (one case) and Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital (one case) from 2015 to 2020 were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. Among the four patients, two were male and two were female.

Background: Nivolumab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) that selectively inhibits programmed cell death protein 1 activation, restoring antitumor immunity. ICIs are indicated for various types of advanced solid tumors; however, not all patients benefit from them, and tools that could be used in the clinic to predict response to treatment represent an unmet need. Here we describe the development of a new population pharmacokinetic (PPK) model in patients treated with nivolumab in clinical trials.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) of the breast is a rare histological subtype of breast cancer, which usually has a low propensity for metastasis and is associated with a good prognosis. AdCC metastasis to the kidney is rare, with only 29 cases reported in the literature. We report a case of a woman in her 60s with multiple right-sided large cystic-solid renal lesions after a recent diagnosis of marginal zone B-cell lymphoma.

Purpose: The treatment landscape for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) has evolved in recent years with the use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immuno-oncology (IO) therapies. This study examined patient characteristics, treatment patterns, health care resource utilization (HCRU), costs, and survival for individuals with mRCC who received either IO + IO or IO + TKI combinations as first-line (1L) regimens.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used integrated claims and clinical data from a commercial health plan to study adults with mRCC who began 1L treatment between April 1, 2018, and January 31, 2023.
