The treatment of a true unilateral posterior crossbite often requires asymmetric maxillary expansion; however, this is challenging to achieve with conventional expansion methods because of several biomechanical limitations. In this paper, we introduce a new protocol for the treatment of a unilateral posterior crossbite in adults based on maxillary orthodontic expansion assisted by corticotomy and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) performed on the crossbite side. The study sample included 15 adults (8 females, 7 males) affected by a true unilateral posterior crossbite, with a mean age of 21.6 ± 3.1 years at the at the beginning of treatment. After the application of orthodontic appliances (palatal expander and self-ligating brackets), corticomy was performed at the buccal aspect of the crossbite side while LLLT was monthly administered up to the correction of the crossbite. The efficacy of the technique was evaluated through measurements performed on maxillary digital models. All subjects reported successful correction of the posterior unilateral crossbite, and functional occlusion was achieved as well. The average expansion was greater at the crossbite side compared to the unaffected side and such difference was significant at the levels of first premolars ( < 0.05), second premolars ( < 0.05) and first molars ( < 0.05). Orthodontic maxillary expansion assisted by unilateral corticotomy and LLLT was effective in the treatment of the true unilateral crossbite.

Objective: We explored awareness of and attitudes about the safety of various methods people use to attempt to end a pregnancy without medical assistance, which we refer to in this study collectively as self-managed abortion (SMA).

Methods: In 2020, we invited individuals living in eight United States (US) states considered "hostile" to abortion rights or with a history of criminalizing abortions performed outside the formal healthcare system to participate in semi-structured telephone interviews regarding their attitudes toward these practices. We analyzed coded transcripts for content and themes.

Background: The medial temporal lobe (MTL) has distinct cortical subregions that are differentially vulnerable to pathology and neurodegeneration in diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. However, previous protocols for segmentation of MTL cortical subregions on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) vary substantially across research groups, and have been informed by different cytoarchitectonic definitions, precluding consistent interpretations. The Hippocampal Subfields Group aims to create a harmonized, histology-based protocol for segmentation of MTL cortical subregions that can reliably be applied to T2-weighted MRI with high in-plane resolution.

Background: Assessment of longitudinal hippocampal atrophy is a well-studied biomarker for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, most state-of-the-art measurements calculate changes directly from MRI images using image registration/segmentation, which may misreport head motion or MRI artifacts as neurodegeneration. We present a deep learning method Regional Deep Atrophy (RDA) that (1) estimates atrophy sensitive to progression by quantifying time-associated changes in images, especially in preclinical AD stage (as in DeepAtrophy (Dong et al.

Background: Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) populations are underrepresented in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) research, despite being the fastest growing racial group in the United States. The Collaborative Approach for AANHPI Research and Education (CARE) registry aims to create a sustainable research recruitment source to address this need.

Method: Participants can enroll online, by phone, or in-person by completing an enrollment survey in English, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Hindi, Korean, Samoan, or Vietnamese.

Reduced CAR T expansion post infusion is associated with poor survival in patients with large B cell lymphoma after two or more therapies.

CD19 directed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is now standard of care for relapsed/refractory large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Despite good overall response rates, many patients still experience disease progression and therefore it is important to predict those at risk of relapse following CAR T-cell therapy. We performed a prospective study using a flow cytometric assay at a single treatment centre to assess early CAR T-cell expansion in vivo 6 - 9 days after CAR-T cell infusion.
