Three techniques, hydro distillation, steam distillation and microwave-assisted distillation, was used in this work to extract volatile secondary metabolites essential oils (EOs), from the aerial part of Ehrh., plant (steams, leaves and flowers). The plant material was collected from a location called El-kobna in El-Oued province, southern Algeria during June 2018. The extracted EOs, were analyzed using both gas chromatography coupled with flame ionization detector and gas chromatography attached with mass spectrometry detector techniques. The antioxidant activity of these EOs were evaluated in vitro using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radicals scavenging activity and cytotoxic test. The results of the EOs analysis showed large variability of the chemical compositions for all techniques. Moreover, a promising cytotoxic activity on colon cancer cells was found.

SKL of Marine Food Processing & Safety Control, National Engineering Research Center of Seafood, Collaborative Innovation Center of Seafood Deep Processing, Liaoning Province Key Laboratory for Marine Food Science and Technology, School of Food Science and Technology, Dalian Polytechnic University, Dalian, China.

Background: Traditional methods for fabricating protein-polyphenol conjugates have not preserved the structural and functional integrity essential for the food industry effectively. This research introduces an advanced encapsulation methodology designed to overcome these limitations, with the potential to enhance the stability of edible oil matrices significantly, leading to improved preservation techniques and extended shelf life.

Results: Glycated pea protein isolate-curcumin conjugates (gPPI-CUR) were developed, demonstrating a marked improvement in the oxidative stability of walnut oil (WO), a proxy for edible oil matrices.

An innovative approach to ticks and insect pests management is necessary to mitigate the challenges posed by the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides, which can lead to resistance development and environmental pollution. Despite their great potential, biological control agents have significant manufacturing, application, and stability limitations. Currently, using phytochemicals, biosynthesized nanoparticles, and bioagents to get rid of arthropods might be a good alternative that would make farmers less worried about residues and resistance.

Hanbit Flavor and Fragrance Co. Ltd., 88 Sinwon-ro, Youngtong-gu, 101-1511 Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.

Research Background: Green extraction technologies, such as microwave-assisted extraction, have been used to replace conventional methods of isolating essential oils from plants. In this study, the essential oil was extracted from the variety koseret using the advanced method of microwave-assisted hydrodistillation. The main objective was to investigate the effect of irradiation time, microwave power and particle size on the yield and chemical composition of the essential oil extracted from leaves dried in an oven at 50 °C and room temperature.

The purpose of this research was to examine the holistic effects of combined complementary therapies in reducing stress in college students. This convergent mixed-method study provided aromatherapy, massage, and meditation music sessions to college students ( = 50) just before finals week. Paired t-tests analyzed pre-session and post-session perceived stress and anxiety as well as objective physiological measures, including salivary cortisol, heart rate, and blood pressure.

Background: Broiler chickens are most vulnerable immediately after hatching due to their immature immune systems, making them susceptible to infectious diseases. The yolk plays an important role in early immune defence by showing relevant antioxidant and passive immunity capabilities during broiler embryonic development. The immunomodulatory effects of phytogenic compound carvacrol have been widely reported.
