Reaction of highly soluble orally active, non-peptide antihypertensive drug losartan with copper(II) leads to the spontaneous formation of a very insoluble 2:1 covalent complex, which self assembles in a hydrophobic supramolecular structure of nanometric dimensions. Thermal analysis showed that Los/Cu(II) complex presents intermediate stability in comparison with its precursors KLos and Cu(OAc)2·H2O. Isothermal titration calorimetry indicated complexation to be a stepwise process, driven by enthalpy and entropy.

The response characteristics and selectivity coefficients of an unmodified carbon paste electrode (CPEs) towards Ag(+), Cu(2+) and Hg(2+) were evaluated. The electrode was used as an indicator electrode for the simultaneous determination of the three metal ions in their mixtures via potentiometric titration with a standard thiocyanate solution. A three-layered feed-forward artificial neural network (ANN) trained by back-propagation learning algorithm was used to model the complex non-linear relationship between the concentration of silver, copper and mercury in their different mixtures and the potential of solution at different volumes of the added titrant.

This study was carried out to develop a new complexometric titration method for determination of copper. For this purpose, the standard solutions of copper(II) (10(-3)-10(-5) M) were potentiometrically titrated using N,N'-disalicylidene-1,3-diaminopropane (Schiff base) as titrant and copper(II)-selective electrode for end-point indication in both ammonium acetate and ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer media. The stoichiometry of titration reaction and interference effects of some metal ions on titration of copper were discussed.

The possibility of the use of simple potentiometric coated-wire sensors in the analysis of mixtures of ions, the determination of which is based on the ion-pairing principle, was studied. Attention was especially paid on the determination of thallium(I) in the presence of alkali metal ions, mercury(II), copper(II) and silver(I). It was found that thallium(I) can selectively be titrated with sodium tetraphenylborate in diluted solutions.
