Assessing the wellbeing of newborns at birth with base deficit (BD)/base excess(BE) is well anchored in clinicians' practice. However, clinicians may not fully understand the concepts behind BD and the concerns regarding the validity of BD results provided by the hospital laboratory. These concerns are linked to the inconsistencies between the equations to calculate BD, and that these equations do not consider the aspects of acid-base physiology at birth. Additionally, the evidence-based supporting BD threshold in the literature to help physicians in making decisions is rather insufficient. These considerations support the need to review practice guidelines that use BD to guide decisions and bring to an end to clinicians to sail blindly in a thick fog.

Background: Wound healing is a complex process influenced by a variety of environmental factors. Dressing materials play a critical role in creating barriers against contaminants, maintaining optimal moisture levels, and absorbing wound exudate. Therefore, selecting materials tailored to wound characteristics is crucial for enhancing outcomes.

Background & Aims: Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) is increasingly used to assess Crohn's disease (CD) activity in clinical practice. However, application in clinical trials has been limited by heterogeneous scoring methods and concerns about reliability. We aimed to determine the inter- and intra-rater reliability of locally and centrally read IUS parameters for evaluating CD using prospectively performed scans.

Introduction: Skin metastases arise in 10% of cancer patients, but standardized dermoscopy diagnostic criteria for skin metastases remain poor. This study's objective was to analyze the dermoscopy features of skin metastases from advanced systemic and cutaneous cancers.
Methods: A retrospective study on 715 dermoscopy images of skin metastases from 33 patients with various primary cancers (breast, ovary, melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancer, and chronic leukemia) attending two academic centers between 2013 and 2023 was performed.

Perineural anesthesia of the tibial nerve can be performed ultrasound-guided or blindly, with the latter still being commonly used in equine practice due to practical constraints, despite its lower accuracy and hence, common failure to achieve desensitization. This may be associated with anatomical variations or inadequate landmarks for injection. To examine the course of the tibial nerve, document potential anatomical variations, and determine optimal landmarks for perineural injection, dissection was conducted along the medial aspect of the tibia in 10 paired cadaver hindlimbs.
