AI Article Synopsis

  • The case involves a patient with chronic granulomatous disease who developed Aspergillus felis infection, showing symptoms of both invasive and allergic forms of aspergillosis.
  • Identifying the specific Aspergillus species using molecular methods is essential for effective patient treatment.
  • This identification helps healthcare providers choose the right antifungal medications to manage the infection.

Article Abstract

We report a case of Aspergillus felis infection in a patient with chronic granulomatous disease who had overlapping features of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. Identifying the species responsible for aspergillosis by molecular methods can be crucial for directing patient management and selection of appropriate antifungal agents.

We report a fatal case of invasive rhinosinusitis with secondary cerebral abscesses in an immunocompetent host despite aggressive surgical debridement and combination antifungals. Whilst this organism is known to cause fatalities in cats, only a few cases in humans have been documented, all of which had significant immunosuppression. This is the first human death due to described in an immunocompetent host.

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy, University of Hawai'i at Hilo, Hilo, HI, United States.

Two new alkaloids tryptoquivaline Y (1) and pseurotin I (2), together with eight known compounds (3-10), were purified from a fungal strain FM324, which was isolated from a Hawaiian beach soil sample. The absolute configuration and physicochemical data of tryptoquivaline Z (3) were reported for the first time here in this paper. Compound 1 is an uncommon tryptoquivaline analog containing a 3--isobutanoyl group.
