Artemisinin, also named , is a family of sesquiterpene trioxane lactone originally derived from the sweet wormwood plant (), which is a traditional Chinese herb that has been universally used as anti-malarial agents for many years. Evidence has accumulated during the past few years which demonstrated the protective effects of artemisinin and its derivatives (artemisinins) in several other diseases beyond malaria, including cancers, autoimmune disorders, inflammatory diseases, viral and other parasite-related infections. Recently, this long-considered anti-malarial agent has been proved to possess anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic and anti-excitotoxic properties, which make it a potential treatment option for the ocular environment. In this review, we first described the overview of artemisinins, highlighting the activity of artemisinins to other diseases beyond malaria and the mechanisms of these actions. We then emphasized the main points of published results of using artemisinins in targeting ocular disorders, including uveitis, retinoblastoma, retinal neurodegenerative diseases and ocular neovascularization. To conclude, we believe that artemisinins could also be used as a promising therapeutic drug for ocular diseases, especially retinal vascular diseases in the near future.

This lecture-format review presents a summary of methods for assessing the condition of corneal nerve fibers (CNF), their clinical significance, and an overview of their anatomy and physiology. It briefly analyzes the structural and functional characteristics of CNF in various ocular diseases, following eye surgeries, and in patients with systemic diseases accompanied by systemic polyneuropathy. The article describes in detail the management algorithm that involves a comprehensive analysis of CNF and Langerhans inflammatory cells, identifies the at-risk groups for developing structural nerve impairments, and outlines the main criteria for CNF assessment.

Purpose: This study compares the functional outcomes of correction using two different types of aberrational extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOLs).
Material And Methods: The study was conducted in two standardized groups (20 patients, 20 eyes in each group). Patients in group 1 were implanted EDOF IOL I, in group 2 - EDOF IOL II.
This article presents a clinical case of ocular thrombotic microangiopathy of mixed origin (antiphospholipid syndrome, malignant arterial hypertension, multigenic thrombophilia). Multimodal imaging of the fundus provides a detailed assessment of its structures. Pathological changes in the choroid, the "retinal pigment epithelium - Bruch's membrane" complex, and the neurosensory retina, identified using fundus photography, short-wavelength autofluorescence, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and OCT angiography, are described as nonspecific in nature.

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the group at highest risk for autoimmune inflammation through a comparative analysis among patients with chronic post-traumatic uveitis (CPTU).
Material And Methods: The clinical group included 50 patients (aged 18 to 87 years, mean age 41±2.6 years) with CPTU resulting from penetrating injury, contusion, or intraocular surgery.
Purpose: This study investigates the capabilities of ultrasonography (US) in determing the stage of orbital inflammation in patients with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA).
Material And Methods: The study included 24 patients (8 men and 16 women) with diffuse orbital tissue involvement in GPA. Group 1 (active stage) included nine patients, while group 2 (inactive stage) consisted of 18 patients.
