Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a highly sensitive technology to detect target analytes. The construction of dynamic "hot-spots" represents a significant approach to enhancing detection sensitivity. Herein, a hybrid plasma platform with dynamic "hot-spots" was developed for SERS recognition based on the assembly of gold nanospheres (AuNSs) on temperature-sensitive bacterial cellulose (BC) film grafted with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM).

Personalised nutrition (PN) as a new endeavour emerged in the background of the human genome project with the ease to analyse genetic heterogeneity. First commercial offers with recommendations for diet and lifestyle changes, usually based on a few polymorphisms, entered markets soon after the presentation of the human genome blueprint. Although PN has seen many attempts, meanwhile, with the inclusion of other biomedical measures such as microbiome and/or continuous glucose monitoring, scientific assessments of such approaches in various settings revealed limited success.

Bulk thermally conductive polyethylene as a thermal interface material.

Mater Horiz

January 2025

Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York 14853, USA.

As the demand for high-power-density microelectronics rises, overheating becomes the bottleneck that limits device performance. In particular, the heterogeneous integration architecture can magnify the importance of heat dissipation and necessitate electrical insulation between critical junctions to prevent dielectric breakdown. Consequently, there is an urgent need for thermal interface materials (TIMs) with high thermal conductivity and electrical insulation to address this challenge.

Optimizing Microneutralization and IFN-γ ELISPOT Assays to Evaluate Mpox Immunity.

Vaccines (Basel)

December 2024

Division of Infectious Diseases, Allergy and Immunology, Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO 63104, USA.

Background: Available assays to measure pox virus neutralizing antibody titers are laborious and take up to 5 days. In addition, assays to measure T cell responses require the use of specific antigens, which may not be the same for all pox viruses. This study reports the development of robust assays for the measurement of mpox-specific neutralizing antibodies and IFN-γ-producing T-cell responses.

In situ X-ray reciprocal space mapping was performed during the interval heating and cooling of InGaN/GaN quantum wells (QWs) grown via metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE). Our detailed in situ X-ray analysis enabled us to track changes in the peak intensities and radial and angular broadenings of the reflection. By simulating the radial diffraction profiles recorded during the thermal cycle treatment, we demonstrate the presence of indium concentration distributions (ICDs) in the different QWs of the heterostructure (1.
