Background: Autosomal recessive cutis laxa type 1B (ARCL1B) is an extremely rare disease characterized by severe systemic connective tissue abnormalities, including cutis laxa, aneurysm and fragility of blood vessels, birth fractures and emphysema. The severity of this disease ranges from perinatal death to manifestations compatible with survival. To date, no cases have been reported in the Chinese population.

Unlabelled: Palivizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), currently is indicated in groups at higher risk of developing severe RSV disease, such as extreme premature infants and patients with hemodynamically significant heart disease. In Chile, this strategy is guaranteed by Law 20850 (Ricarte Soto Law). Nevertheless, barriers to its administration included the need to transfer these labile patients and exposure to other users, with the risk of contagion in waiting rooms.

Self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) is an extremely promising platform because it can produce more protein for less RNA. We used a sort and sequence approach to identify host cell factors associated with transgene expression from saRNA; the hypothesis was that cells with different expression levels would have different transcriptomes. We tested this in CDK4/hTERT immortalized human muscle cells transfected with Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV)-derived saRNA encoding GFP.

Background: Climate change is increasing the frequency of high heat and high humidity days. Whether these conditions can trigger ventricular arrhythmias [ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation, VT/VF] in susceptible persons is unknown.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between warm-season weather conditions and risk of VT/VF in individuals with pacemakers and defibrillators.
During surgical repair of congenital heart defects, surgeons often come across anomalies that might not have been adequately illustrated in preoperative imaging. In this case image, we describe the absence of pericardium which was discovered during surgical repair of a sinus venosus defect in a small child.
