Evaluation of metabolite stability in dried blood spot stored at different temperatures and times.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Metanotitia Inc, Building C4, Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters, Shenzhen (Harbin) Industrial Park, 288 Zhigu Street, Songbei District, Harbin, 150029, China.

Dried blood spot (DBS) sampling offers significant advantages over conventional blood collection methods, such as reduced sample volume, minimal invasiveness, suitability for home-based sampling, and ease of transport. However, understanding the effects of variable storage temperatures and times on metabolite stability is crucial due to varying intervals and delivery conditions between sample collection and metabolomics analysis. To minimize biological variances, all samples were collected from the same individual simultaneously and stored at three different temperatures (4 °C, 25 °C, and 40 °C) for diverse time points (3, 7, 14, and 21 days).

Formation and Magnetic Properties of Transition Metal Atomic Chains on Monolayer MoS Grain Boundaries: A First-Principles Study.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Key Laboratory for Nonferrous Materials (MOE), School of Materials Science and Engineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, China.

Magnetic one-dimensional nanostructures show great potential in spintronics and can be used as basic building blocks for magnetic materials and devices with multiple functions. In this study, transition group atomic chains (V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni) are introduced into nonmagnetic MoS with a 4|8ud-type grain boundary. Based on first-principles calculations, the V atomic chains show good thermodynamic stability and can self-assemble along the grain boundary direction.

In this study, a new environmentally friendly and efficient method for recycling and reusing waste polyurethane sheets is proposed. SiO aerogel was prepared using the sol-gel method, and mullite whiskers were introduced to enhance its toughness. The whisker-toughened aerogel was used in the degradation of waste polyurethane to produce modified recycled polyol, which was subsequently used to prepare recycled polyurethane foam insulation material.

In sustainable construction and packaging, the development of novel bio-based materials is crucial, driving a re-evaluation of traditional components. Lightweight, biodegradable materials, including xerogels, have great potential in architectural and packaging applications. However, reinforcing these materials to improve their mechanical strength remains a challenge.

Background: Good preconception health reduces the incidence of preventable morbidity and mortality for women, their babies, and future generations. In Australia, there is a need to increase health literacy and awareness about the importance of good preconception health. Digital health tools are a possible enabler to increase this awareness at a population level.
