Maintaining the correct ratio of apical, basal, and lateral membrane domains is important for epithelial physiology. Here, we show that CD2AP is a critical determinant of epithelial membrane proportions. Depletion of CD2AP or phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibition results in loss of F-actin and expansion of apical-basal domains, which comes at the expense of lateral membrane height in MDCK cells. We demonstrate that the SH3 domains of CD2AP bind to PI3K and are necessary for PI3K activity along lateral membranes and constraining cell area. Tethering the SH3 domains of CD2AP or p110γ to the membrane is sufficient to rescue CD2AP-knockdown phenotypes. CD2AP and PI3K are both upstream and downstream of actin polymerization. Since CD2AP binds to both actin filaments and PI3K, CD2AP might bridge actin assembly to PI3K activation to form a positive feedback loop to support lateral membrane extension. Our results provide insight into the squamous to cuboidal to columnar epithelial transitions seen in complex epithelial tissues in vivo.

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the role of the microrchidia (MORC) family, a group of chromatin remodeling proteins, as the therapeutic and prognostic markers for colorectal cancer (CRC).
Background: MORC protein family genes are a highly conserved nucleoprotein superfamily whose members share a common domain but have distinct biological functions. Previous studies have analyzed the roles of MORCs as epigenetic regulators and chromatin remodulators; however, the involvement of MORCs in the development and pathogenesis of CRC was less examined.

Lateral flow assays (LFAs) have found extensive applications in food safety and quality monitoring. Now, smartphone technology is redefining how tests are conducted at the point of use. At the same time, quick response (QR) codes enhance digital connectivity for information transmission, data collection, and response linkage.

Sinus membrane perforations are among the most commonly reported intraoperative complications encountered during maxillary sinus floor elevation procedures performed via the lateral window approach. Large perforations (> 10 mm) can pose a major clinical challenge, and often result in failed bone augmentation and poorer long-term implant survival. Owing to these challenges, even a highly skilled oral implant surgeon with advanced training in implantology faced with such perforations may abandon grafting procedures in favor of a reentry approach.

Plasma membrane (PM) simulations at longer length and time scales at nearly atomistic resolution can provide invaluable insights into cell signaling, apoptosis, lipid trafficking, and lipid raft formation. We propose a coarse-grained (CG) model of a mammalian PM considering major lipid head groups distributed asymmetrically across the membrane bilayer and validate the model against bilayer structural properties from atomistic simulation. Using the proposed CG model, we identify a recurring pattern in the passive collective cholesterol transbilayer motion and study the individual cholesterol flip-flop events and associated pathways along with lateral ordering in the bilayer during a flip-flop event.

The current study provides the first ultrastructural observations on the intraerythrocytic stages of so-called Haemogregarina damiettae and their cytopathological effects on the infected erythrocytes (IEs) in addition to the recording of new morphometric data. The intraerythrocytic stages are attributed to the immature forms or trophozoites (Ts), and mature gamonts (Gs). Ts are typically bowling-bottle shaped with nucleus (TN) occupying its globose part, while Gs are typically banana- shaped.
