Despite the ubiquitous nature of symbiosis in palaemonid shrimps (Caridea: Palaemonidae) which live in or on varied invertebrate hosts, such as echinoderms, sponges, ascidians, hard and soft corals, etc., very few taxa have been recorded living in burrows constructed by other animals. This is in sharp contrast to the rich burrow-dwelling diversity in the Alpheidae, in which numerous genera associate with a great variety of burrowing animals, including stomatopods (Hayashi 2002; Ďuriš Anker 2014), echiurans (Anker et al. 2005, 2015), other alpheid shrimps (e.g. De Grave 2004; Anker Marin 2006), and especially numerous ghost and mud shrimps (e.g. Anker, 2011; Anker Lazarus 2015).

The selection and expression of conspicuous colorations in animals is often related to anti-predation strategies and sociosexual communication. The giant river prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man, 1879) is a species with three male morphotypes that vary in claws' coloration and the size of the animals. It has been suggested that male reproductive quality might be associated to their coloration, but evidence is still conflicting.

The CRISPR/Cas genome editing approach in non-model organisms poses challenges that remain to be resolved. Here, we demonstrated a generalized roadmap for a de novo genome annotation approach applied to the non-model organism . We also addressed the typical genome editing challenges arising from genetic variations, such as a high frequency of single nucleotide polymorphisms, differences in sex chromosomes, and repetitive sequences that can lead to off-target events.

Crustacean female sex hormone (CFSH) was first identified as a female eyestalk-specific factor involved in the female sexual development in blue crab. Whether CFSH has conserved role in other decapod species remains to be clarified. 2,4-D dimethylammonium, a widely used herbicide, accumulates in aquatic animals, posing risks to both their populations and human consumers. This study evaluated the effects of 2,4-D on Riceland prawn (Macrobrachium lanchesteri) using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to assess morphological changes. Studies using the embryos of the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium olfersii have reported changes in embryonic cells after exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation, such as DNA damage and apoptosis activation. Considering the importance of mitochondria in embryonic cells, this study aimed to characterize the aspects of mitochondrial morphofunctionality in M. olfersii embryos and mitochondrial responses to UVB radiation exposure.
