Image formation in electron microscopes with circular hole and annular apertures is studied theoretically. The apertures-the circular hole aperture being negative with respect to the annular aperture-produce an additional electrostatic field that exerts a force on the electrons directed toward the optical axis. The resulting deflection angle decreases with increasing distance from the optical axis. This electrostatic field results in a correcting effect of the unavoidable spherical aberration of round electron lenses; the deflection toward the optical axis increases stronger than linearly with increasing distance from the optical axis. Analytical formulae are given for the correcting effect of circular hole and annular apertures. The expressions are based on the Davisson-Calbick formula, which is used to calculate focal length of a simple electrostatic lens.

Purpose: This study explores the effects of mifepristone on the proliferation, motility, and invasion of malignant and benign meningioma cells, aiming to identify mifepristone-sensitive types and investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms.
Methods: IOMM-Lee and HBL-52 meningioma cells were treated with 0, vehicle control (VC), 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 μM of mifepristone for 12, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h. Proliferation was assessed via CCK8 assay, while motility and invasion were measured using wound scratch and transwell assays.

We present the first controlled-environment measurements of the optical path-length change response of telecommunication submarine cables to active seismic and acoustic waves. We perform the comparison among integrated (optical interferometry) and distributed (distributed acoustic sensing, DAS) fibre measurements and ground truth data acquired by 58 geophones, 20 three-axis seismometers and 7 microphones. The comparison between different seismic acquisition methods is an essential step towards full validation and calibration of the data acquired using novel cable-based sensing techniques.
