To understand tumor heterogeneity in cancer, personalized driver genes (PDGs) need to be identified for unraveling the genotype-phenotype associations corresponding to particular patients. However, most of the existing driver-focus methods mainly pay attention on the cohort information rather than on individual information. Recent developing computational approaches based on network control principles are opening a new way to discover driver genes in cancer, particularly at an individual level. To provide comprehensive perspectives of network control methods on this timely topic, we first considered the cancer progression as a network control problem, in which the expected PDGs are altered genes by oncogene activation signals that can change the individual molecular network from one health state to the other disease state. Then, we reviewed the network reconstruction methods on single samples and introduced novel network control methods on single-sample networks to identify PDGs in cancer. Particularly, we gave a performance assessment of the network structure control-based PDGs identification methods on multiple cancer datasets from TCGA, for which the data and evaluation package also are publicly available. Finally, we discussed future directions for the application of network control methods to identify PDGs in cancer and diverse biological processes.

Bicontinuous particle-stabilized emulsions (bijels) are unique soft materials that combine the bulk properties of two immiscible fluids into a single interconnected structure. This structure is achieved through the formation of two interwoven fluid networks, stabilized by an interfacial layer of colloidal particles. Bijels with submicron-scale domain networks can be synthesized solvent transfer-induced phase separation (STrIPS).

The surveillance of mobile genetic elements facilitating the spread of antimicrobial resistance genes has been challenging. Here, we tracked both clonal and plasmid transmission in colistin- and carbapenem-resistant using short- and long-read sequencing technologies. We observed three clonal transmissions, all containing Incompatibility group (Inc) L plasmids and New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase , although not co-located on the same plasmid.

This work focuses on the incorporation of 2D carbon nanomaterials, such as graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), into polypropylene (PP) via melt mixing. The addition of these 2D carbon nanostructured networks offers a novel approach to enhancing/controlling the water vapor permeable capabilities of PP composite membranes, widely used in industrial applications, such as technical (building roof membranes) or medical (surgical gowns) textiles. The study investigates how the dispersion and concentration of these graphene nanomaterials within the PP matrix influence the microstructure and water vapor permeability (WVP) performance.

Caring for a dependent individual, particularly over an extended period, places significant strain on family caregivers, often leading to adverse physical, mental, emotional, social, and economic outcomes for both caregivers and those they care for. Common challenges include anxiety, depression, loneliness, and diminished overall well-being. E-health applications have emerged as effective tools to support family caregivers by promoting positive mental health through online interventions, enhancing problem-solving skills, autonomy, interpersonal relationships, self-control, and a prosocial attitude.

The cortex and cerebellum are densely connected through reciprocal input/output projections that form segregated circuits. These circuits are shown to differentially connect anterior lobules of the cerebellum to sensorimotor regions, and lobules Crus I and II to prefrontal regions. This differential connectivity pattern leads to the hypothesis that individual differences in structure should be related, especially for connected regions.
