Tumour-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is an uncommon, debilitating disorder often characterised by non-specific clinical manifestations, posing a significant diagnostic challenge. The tumours causing TIO can be minuscule and occur in unusual areas, further complicating diagnosis. This report details the case of a woman in her early 30s presenting with chronic pain who subsequently developed fragility fractures.

Introduction: Neuroblastoma is an embryonic tumor of the peripheral sympathetic nervous system. It is the most common extracranial solid tumor of childhood and accounts for up to 15% of all pediatric cancer fatalities. The manifestation of neuroblastoma is variable depending on the location of the tumor and the presence or absence of paraneoplastic syndromes.

Paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration (PCD) is a rapidly progressive, immune-mediated syndrome characterized by the degeneration of Purkinje cells, often associated with the presence of antibodies targeting intracellular antigens within these cells. These autoantibodies are implicated in the induction of cytotoxicity, leading to Purkinje cell death, as demonstrated in in vitro models. However, the precise roles of antibodies and T lymphocytes in mediating neuronal injury remain a subject of ongoing research, with T cells appearing to be the main effectors of cerebellar injury.

Critical and progressive cachexia may be observed in numerous medical disciplines, but in patients with various diseases, several pathways overlap (endocrine, inflammatory and kidney diseases, heart failure, cancer). Unlike numerous cohort studies that examine thyroid cancer and risk factors, a different method was used to avoid bias and analyze the sequence of events, i.e.

Context: TIO, a paraneoplastic disorder characterised by renal phosphate wasting, is cured by surgical removal of the culprit tumour. Despite correct localization, some remain refractory to intervention, resulting in substantial long-term medical complications.

Aim: We aim to identify risk factors associated with a refractory outcome.
