Paraneoplastic neurologic degeneration (PND) is characterized by acute and subacute onset neurological syndrome associated with active or with subclinical cancer. It is rare but early diagnosis can improve the neurological and carcinological prognosis. Among the PNDs it is possible to distinguish subacute cerebellar degeneration often associated with gynecological or breast cancer. We report the case of a 50-year old female patient on follow-up for ovarian adenocarcinoma treated with surgery and whose recurrence was detected due to anti-Yo antibody-positive subacute cerebellar degeneration.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, as a result of cognitive decline and neurological dysfunction. In AD, reduced cerebral blood flow and impaired vascularization result from capillary bed degeneration and decreased angiogenesis, as observed in both patients and animal models. Physical exercise is recognized as a potential intervention to delay AD progression and reduce disease risk.

Pathogenic mutations within the TBK1 gene leading to haploinsufficiency are causative of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This gene is linked to autophagy and inflammation, two cellular mechanisms reported to be dysregulated in ALS patients, although its functional role in the pathogenesis could involve other players.
