This prospective study aimed to compare the pattern of mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid D-loop (mt-DNA D-loop) variations in 41 paired samples of de novo pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (baseline vs. relapse) patients by Sanger's sequencing. Mean mt-DNA D-loop variation was 10.1 at baseline as compared with 9.4 per patients at relapse. In our study, 28 (68.3%) patients showed change in number of variations from baseline to relapse, 11 (26.8%) patients showed increase, 17 (41.6%) patients showed decrease, and 7 (17.1%) patients who suffered a relapse had a gain at position T489C. No statistically significant difference was observed in the mutation profile of mt-DNA D-loop region from baseline to relapse in the evaluated population of pediatric AML.

Gorals represent ungulate mammals of the Palearctic and Indo-Malayan realms that face habitat destruction and intense hunting pressure. Their classification has been the subject of various (mainly genetic) assessments in the last decade, but some results are conflicting, hampering some conservation-based decisions. Genetic sampling of gorals has increased considerably in recent years, at least for mitochondrial (mt) DNA.

The suppressive regulatory T cells (Treg) are frequently upregulated in cancer patients. This study aims to demonstrate the hypothesis that arecoline could induce the secretion of mitochondrial (mt) DNA D-loop and programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) in extracellular vesicles (EVs), and attenuate T-cell immunity by upregulated Treg cell numbers. However, the immunosuppression could be reversed by whole glucan particle (WGP) β-glucan in oral squamous cell (OSCC) patients.

Background: Kurdish horse is one of the most valuable horse genetic resources in the Middle East.
Objectives: To assess the genetic diversity of Kurdish horses, Mitochondrial DNA D-loop hyper-variable region1 (HVR1) was sequenced in 29 non-related Kurdish horses which were sampled from diverse geographic regions of Iran.
Methods: Total DNA was extracted from the collected blood samples by modified salting out method.

Background: Management of most herbivorous small mammal species considered to be pests in Africa is still challenging partly because of the paucity of information on their biological traits that would help to manage their destructive impacts. This gap also precludes the potential for tapping species with potential food-value to improving the economy of rural communities through, for example, sustainable game farming programs in Africa. This study investigates the genetic diversity and population demography of the African Greater Cane rat (AGC), a rodent pest of crops and game species inhabiting two isolated blocks of the Eastern Arc Mountains (EAMs), Tanzania to contribute to the species management and conservation.

Objective: To understand the domestication and spread of horses in history, genetic information is essential. However, mitogenetic traits of ancient or medieval horses have yet to be comprehensively revealed, especially for East Asia. This study thus set out to reveal the maternal lineage of skeletal horse remains retrieved from a 15th century archaeological site (Gongpyeongdong) at Old Seoul City in South Korea.
