The unique tumor microenvironment (TME) facilitates cancer proliferation and metastasis, and it is hard to cure cancer completely via monotherapy. Herein, a multifunctional cascade bioreactor based on hollow mesoporous Cu MoS (CMS) loaded with glucose oxidase (GOx) is constructed for synergetic cancer therapy by chemo-dynamic therapy (CDT)/starvation therapy/phototherapy/immunotherapy. The CMS harboring multivalent elements (Cu , Mo ) exhibit Fenton-like, glutathione (GSH) peroxidase-like and catalase-like activity. Once internalized into the tumor, CMS could generate ·OH for CDT via Fenton-like reaction and deplete overexpressed GSH in TME to alleviate antioxidant capability of the tumors. Moreover, under hypoxia TME, the catalase-like CMS could react with endogenous H O to generate O for activating the catalyzed oxidation of glucose by GOx for starvation therapy accompanied with the regeneration of H O . The regenerated H O can devote to Fenton-like reaction for realizing GOx-catalysis-enhanced CDT. Meanwhile, the CMS under 1064 nm laser irradiation shows remarkable tumor-killing ability by phototherapy due to its excellent photothermal conversion efficiency (η = 63.3%) and cytotoxic superoxide anion (·O ) generation performance. More importantly, the PEGylated CMS@GOx-based synergistic therapy combined with checkpoint blockade therapy could elicit robust immune responses for both effectively ablating primary tumors and inhibiting cancer metastasis.

The integration of reactive oxygen species (ROS) related photodynamic therapy (PDT) with the strategy of reshaping the tumor microenvironment (TME) has emerged as a potential approach for nanodiagnostic and therapeutic interventions. However, the therapeutic efficacy based on ROS treatments may be hindered by intracellular antioxidants such as glutathione (GSH) and tumor hypoxia. To address these challenges, a nanoplatform based on GSH-responsive multifunctional porphyrinic metal-organic framework (PCN-224@Au@MnO@HA, PAMH) was proposed.

Bacterial infections and inflammation severely impede wound healing. Here, we developed a zwitterionic hydrogel incorporating MOF/GOx for pH-responsive, controlled drug release. The multifunctional hydrogel embedded with MOF/GOx was successfully prepared through the Schiff base reaction between the copolymer poly[(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine)-co-(4-formylphenyl methacrylate)] (PMF) and the branched polyethylenimine (PEI) modified by the zwitterionic monomer ((4-hydroxyphenyl)sulfonyl)(4-(trimethylammonio)butanoyl)amide (AB), which possessed excellent injectable and self-healing ability, a highly sensitive and reversible responsiveness to pH changes, and good biocompatibility.

Severe traumatic bleeding and chronic diabetic wounds require rapid hemostasis and multifunctional dressings, which remain particularly challenging, especially for non-compressible trauma and irregular wounds with dysregulated microenvironments. Chitosan (CS) can be easily cross-linked with genipin to form GpCS hydrogels. However, developing injectable GpCS hydrogels for biomedical applications faces challenges, particularly in enhancing rapid gel formation and optimizing physical properties.

Theranostic applications in atherosclerosis plaque microenvironment-triggered nanoplatforms are significantly compromised by the complex synthesis procedure, non-specific distribution, and limited therapeutic function. Therefore, development of a facile and feasible method to construct a pathology-based stimuli-responsive nanoplatform with satisfactory theranostic performance remains a demanding and highly anticipated goal. Herein, a novel class of multifunctional supra-carbon dots (CDs), denoted as MM@Ce-CDs NPs, by a simple nanoassembly and a subsequent coating with macrophage membrane (MM), is developed for the targeted reactive oxygen species-trigged theranostic and positive regulation of the pathological plaque microenvironment in AS.

State Key Laboratory of Precision Measuring Technology & Instruments, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300072, China.

This paper reviews the field of cascaded metasurfaces, which are advanced optical devices formed by stacking or serially arranging multiple metasurface layers. These structures leverage near-field and far-field electromagnetic (EM) coupling mechanisms to enhance functionalities beyond single-layer metasurfaces. This review comprehensively discusses the physical principles, design methodologies, and applications of cascaded metasurfaces, focusing on both static and dynamic configurations.
