Purpose: Any instrumentation on the tooth surface for plaque or calculus removal will cause some amount of roughness on the tooth surface. Hence, this study was proposed to investigate the effects of hand and ultrasonic scaling and root planing on enamel and cementum, respectively.
Materials And Methods: Forty tooth samples were prepared from extracted maxillary and mandibular first pre-molars and were divided randomly into four groups of 10 samples each.

The purpose of this literature review was to evaluate the effectiveness of using Er:YAG (erbium-doped yttrium/aluminum/garnet) laser or Er,Cr:YSGG (erbium, chromium-doped yttrium/scandium/gallium/garnet) laser on calculus removal and their effect on the topography and roughness of root surface in comparison with the conventional instruments in the nonsurgical periodontal therapy. One of the most challenging problems in treatment of periodontal disease is the elimination of plaque and calculus, leaving a clean and smooth root surface to decrease plaque and calculus retention, and for good gingival reattachment. PubMed and Google Scholar were searched for available literature.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and the level of DKK1 and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) while taking Er:YAG laser as an adjunctive to scaling and root planning in the treatment of chronic periodontitis (CP).
Methods: Eleven patients with CP were included and there were nineteen pairs of homonym teeth(thirty-eight teeth) in this split-mouth design, and they were randomly assigned to experimental group or control group. In the experimental group, a combination of ultrasonic subgingigval scaling and root planning with hand instrument (SRP) were performed with Er: YAG laser as an adjunctive; in the control group, only SRP was performed.

Background: To compare the quality of calcium hydroxide paste fillings performed by three different techniques.
Material And Methods: Sixty extracted maxillary central incisors, with previous root canal treatment, were decoronated and the gutta-percha was completely removed from the root canals. Subsequently, the canals were filled with a calcium hydroxide-based paste composed of calcium hydroxide, bismuth carbonate, and glycerin.
