AI Article Synopsis

  • The behavior of Cypriot immigrants, as seen in four cases of hysteria, reflects the social values and family dynamics of 19th-century Vienna.
  • One case remains undiagnosed, while another involved a temporary psychotic episode with unusual symptoms similar to Ganser syndrome.
  • The text explores the cultural influences and diagnostic challenges related to these behaviors.

Article Abstract

The aspirations, mores, and family structure in Cypriot immigrants, which are illustrated in four cases of hysterical behaviour, have many similarities to nineteenth century Viennese society. Such behaviour may mask more sinister diagnoses; one of the cases remains diagnostically uncertain and another passed through a transient hysterical psychosis with Ganser-like symptoms. The cultural, dynamic, and nosological issues are discussed.

Understanding the origins of reversible and hysteretic pathways of adsorption phase transitions in metal-organic frameworks.

Phase behavior of nanoconfined fluids adsorbed in metal-organic frameworks is of paramount importance for the design of advanced materials for energy and gas storage, separations, electrochemical devices, sensors, and drug delivery, as well as for the pore structure characterization. Phase transformations in adsorbed fluids often involve long-lasting metastable states and hysteresis that has been well-documented in gas adsorption-desorption and nonwetting fluid intrusion-extrusion experiments. However, theoretical prediction of the observed nanophase behavior remains a challenging problem.

The Symbolism in a Case of Hysterical Psychosis.

Actas Esp Psiquiatr

Private Psychiatrist, 00100 Rome, Italy.

The authors take inspiration from a case of hysterical psychosis to illustrate a typical condition of this evocative disease: the symbolic language of hysteria, conjurer of archetypical images. The authors encourage the clinician not to decode such aspects in rational analytical terms, rather to have a more wide-open approach that promotes the emergence of the individual unconscious, reconnecting with the collective imagination. This approach could help psychiatrists better understand a subject's inner experiences and interpersonal behavior.
