A measurement method of Kr using an internal gas proportional counter (IGPC) is presented in this study. The operation conditions of the IGPC were determined and optimized, including the operating voltage, pressure, sample volume, interference from other gas components such as nitrogen or air, and mitigation of the memory effect. The IGPC was calibrated using certified standards, and the detection efficiency was approximately 58% for typical samples. A lower limit of detection of approximately 0.11 MBq/m(Kr) was achieved after counting for 5 h with 1 mL pure Kr, corresponding to the atmospheric activity concentration of 0.18 Bq/m (air). It was shown that the IGPC could be used effectively for measuring Kr.

The spiral generator, based on the principle of the electric field vector inversion, is capable of delivering repetitive high-voltage nanosecond pulses in the commercial portable pulsed x-ray source and gas switch trigger source. However, the spiral generator suffers from extremely low output efficiency, which significantly affects the compactness and accelerates the insulation film breakdown at electrode foil edges since the high charging voltage is required. A novel output efficiency improvement method for the spiral generator was proposed, implementing the permalloy film inside the passive layer to optimize internal voltage wave propagation processes during the pulser erection.

Analysis of an Unsaturated Seepage Mechanism in Coal Seam Water Injection.

ACS Omega

December 2024

School of Safety Science and Engineering, Henan Polytechnic University, Jiaozuo 454003, Henan, China.

The wetting process of coal seam water injection is a typical unsaturated flow, but the steady-state method for measuring liquid permeability cannot reflect the unsaturated flow process of water in coal. The principle of wetting and expanding process of liquid in coal medium is very complex, and the multiscale pore characteristics of coal make the liquid permeability show multiscale characteristics. Therefore, liquid-phase triaxial seepage experiments under different working conditions are carried out, and a one-way multiscale dynamic apparent permeability coefficient model () = exp(-β) is established to analyze the influence of pressure, liquid wettability, and pore structure on the unsaturated wetting process of coal seam water injection.

The large amount of unfused powder that remains on the surface of Ti6AL4V porous scaffolds prepared by selective laser melting technology is a common problem. Therefore, this article investigated the effects of three different chemical polishing processes on the surface state, pore structure, and mechanical properties of small pore size scaffold materials at different polishing times in the field of implantable medical devices. The results show that the overall treatment effect of the simple chemical polishing process is poor, the internal treatment depth of porous support is insufficient and uneven, and the overall mechanical properties of the sample with the same porosity are average.

Point-of-Care Potassium Measurement vs Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Electrocardiography for Hyperkalemia Detection.

Am J Crit Care

January 2025

Shih-Hua Lin is a professor, Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, Tri-Service General Hospital, National Defense Medical Center, Taipei.

Background: Hyperkalemia can be detected by point-of-care (POC) blood testing and by artificial intelligence- enabled electrocardiography (ECG). These 2 methods of detecting hyperkalemia have not been compared.

Objective: To determine the accuracy of POC and ECG potassium measurements for hyperkalemia detection in patients with critical illness.

Accurately determining the initial acoustic field excitation load of a piezoelectric ultrasonic probe is essential for simulating electrical signals and calculating wall thickness during ultrasonic internal inspection of pipelines. A new method for determining the initial excitation load of the acoustic field is proposed, incorporating the focusing effect of the curved surface of pipelines on the ultrasonic signal from the piezoelectric ultrasonic probe. Finite element models were established for the new and old methods using COMSOL software, facilitating the analysis of the initial acoustic field distribution and associated electrical signal characteristics.
