BACKGROUND The main concern regarding lung-protective ventilation strategies during neurosurgery is the reduction in venous return and increase in cerebral blood flow when using high positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP). This study aimed to evaluate and compare the changes in regional cerebral oxygen saturations (rSO2) during the use of 5 cmH₂O and 10 cmH₂O PEEP in patients undergoing craniotomy for tumor resection. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study was designed as a prospective, single-blind randomized controlled study.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is considered a complication of free flap surgery. Prior studies investigating the use of Caprini Risk Score (CRS) to estimate risk of complications in free flap reconstruction are confounded by small sample sizes, varying surgical sites, and disparate classification of risk. This study evaluates the predictive merit of CRS for complications in free flap reconstructions.

Introduction: This study aimed to explore changes in the venous return system in patients with Constrictive pericarditis (CP) after pericardial stripping and examine their value in predicting mortality.

Methods: An 8-year single-center retrospective cohort study including patients with CP after pericardial stripping surgery. Hemodynamic parameters were analyzed in 90 patients at 11 time points including before and after surgery and every 4 to 9 hours in the first 48 hours in the ICU (pre-operation, post-operation, 0h, t1, t2, t3, 24h, t4, t5, t6, 48h).

Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is a clinical condition characterized by impaired venous return from the upper body due to intrinsic or extrinsic obstruction of the SVC. Endovascular stenting has become an effective intervention for symptomatic relief. However, the procedure carries a rare risk of life-threatening complications, including SVC perforation and cardiac tamponade.

Spinal arteriovenous malformation (sAVM) is a rare vascular disease of the spine, presenting with symptoms of spinal cord involvement including sensory, motor, and autonomic symptoms. Early diagnosis is critical as the disease progresses to cause spinal cord compression, venous hypertension, and compression leading to spinal cord ischemia or infarction. In this case series, we present three cases treated at our institution over one year, with distinctly different anatomical sites of involvement.
